Confusing HU Match (Long OP)

Here's your basic $5.25 HU SNG on P*. I played 7 hands with this guy....that's all it took to beat him. By hand five I had a feeling he was setting me up for a rough beat, but the little bit of a read I had on him and my middle pair (usually good HU according to what I have read) led me to call...he had the nut flush draw and overs but didn't improve and I won. This was either the loosest play I've ever had or the most dominating performance I've shown...but I guess I could post some hands and ask for your input.

Thanks,
Jason

Now, I understand the last hand was a very gutsy play and that I probably should not have called...but I guess you could say I went with my gut instinct which was based on a feeling that he was tilting after losing 6 straight hands.

Comments appreciated. Criticism ignored. Just Kidding!

Also, maybe I better not play in that HU tourney for the FC's now that I've posted this...lol.

Thanks guys...congrats to those who made it to the bottom!

Jason

Re: Confusing HU Match (Long OP)

your read was right, but it still wasnt a great call. You called off half of your stack with middle pair when you were actually an underdog (his backdoor straight, flush draw, and overs makes him a slight favorite).

I can appreciate the gamble, but you had him 2-1 in chips after 6 hands. no need to make this play.

congrats on the quick win though. always nice to take one down.

Agreed 125%. I had no need to call...but the way this guy was playing (loose-passive), I thought that if I did call, I had a decent chance at winning back my stack, which was another factor in my decision, albeit smaller than others.

I just ran the odds on this hand...I only took the lead after the turn, and even then it was only 65/35. Ouch!

Maybe skip the 'gamble' with this guy and give him credit and bleed him as you'd been doing? Tilt or not it wasn't that hard for him to be ahead and expect a donk like him to make the same raise with AQ (your read on him from earlier play may differ).

Maybe I can get mightyjim2k to come over for a little on site coaching that night too.

Re: Confusing HU Match (Long OP)

Everything looks good to me except the last hand. Give it up and move on. The guy is donktastic you'll get him. No reason to go for the knockout here.

Re: Confusing HU Match (Long OP)

As others have said, your call was a bit suspect on the last hand. The other guy got his money in with the best of it.
I struggle with this too, going for a knockout against weak players when really their only chance to win is for you to make calls like this one. If you were playing someone much better than you, then this call would be closer to ok.

Mike

CTers are good folks so I would be willing to stop by and take a look if you guys get it going. I do go out a lot of evenings though, so it might be more interesting to have you guys post up some threads from one persons perspective and then we could go from there. That way I wouldn't miss the action.

ROFLMFAO! This is what I get for posting on chiptalk after getting home from my company 75th anniversary party and being half in the bag last night.... The hangover today is a bit worse though.

So it looks like I have myself a headup match with jet. We might have to take a poll to see what the over under is on this one whether I can last more than 10 hands.
