Bodog drops Jamie Gold

Looks like Bodog wants not part of him.

Bodog Cuts Jamie Gold from its Poker Team

The 2007 Main Event Champion's Rocky Reign Continues
Memo to Jamie Gold: Calvin Ayre wants his hat back. Gold, the 2006 World Series of Poker champion, is off Bodog's team of poker pros.
Bodog's statement, released today, reads:
"In light of our decision to cease all offline marketing initiatives in the U.S., and instead refocus our efforts on growing our entertainment brand in Europe and Asia, Bodog has ended our business relationship with Jamie Gold. Bodog has enjoyed our association with Mr. Gold and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Despite the reason given for Gold's release, Bodog is still retaining David Williams, Josh Arieh and Evelyn Ng as Team Bodog members.
Out of the last five WSOP main event champions, only Gold doesn't have a deal to represent an online site. That list includes Robert Varkonyi.
Bodog and Gold's business relationship began before the WSOP whenGold agreed to secure celebrities to play in the main event under the Bodog banner in exchange for a ticket into the main event.
Gold then partnered with Crispin Leyser to help him with this task in exchange for half of Gold's winnings, according to Leyser. But after Gold won, Leyser says the blueberry-eating Gold reneged on the deal and decided to keep the entire $12 million prize.
Leyser then sued Gold for his half of the prize, and soon after Gold raised his arms in triumph after all the chips in the main event was in frontof him, a judge froze half the prize while the case moved forward. The case is still pending.

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

I think Bodog made the right move. I was never impressed with him as a player. Anyone of us could have won that event if we were in his seat. He was never delt a BAD hand. It was always top pair, flush on the flop, Ive never seen so many hands delt like that. Since then he hasnt done anything or won anything to my knowledge. SO I agree. Just my 2 chips.

I agree, he didn´t impress me a bit. Gold do not give anything to the "poker player" including his awful personality. His image is not good to make bussines with.

Those are just my toughts .

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

Bodog found a good out with Gold with the internet scheme. Just because you win the main event doesn't make you marketable in the public. Most posts here reference Gold's play and demeanor at the WSOP along with his recent HSP play are very negative. FullTilt takes a risk with Matasow but love or hate him, he keeps making news at the poker table not the courthouse (recently). Bold Prediction - Jamie Gold will be a joke in the poker world for years to come. Luckily we can all say we saw the worse WSOP champion ever win his bracelet.

First the Matasow "blow up"
Next year the Jamie Gold "fade away"

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

Not defending JG here, since many of you might recall that I detest the guy.

That was only the edited version of the Main Event that we saw on TV though. Just something to keep in mind. I'll grant you that he seemed to have a lot more luck in his corner (along with Johnny Chan ) than you typically see, but we didn't see the entire tourney in the ESPN broadcast.

At least I didn't, since I wasn't lucky enough to see the M.E. live.

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

i'm not going to rag on Jamie Gold, I think he lucked into the major chip lead which made it almost imposssible to overcome. But what I am impressed with is Joe Hachem, I don't want ot spoil anything, but if you read the poker periodicals, you know what this guy has been doing. Also, he paid cash for his entry. He truly does have poker skill and his accomplishments are really improving (though a WSOP title I guess is a pinnacle)

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

When Jamie Gold won, it just showed that playing like a donkey pays off!!!
I have never seen as many bad beats in my life.
Every hand... the same story, I have a 2-5 offsuit so I call.. Give me a break.

Excellent point about Hachem. Joe is taking things very seriously and has some amazing results to show for his commitment. Raymer's no slouch either.

Re: Bodog drops Jamie Gold

I have a feeling Hachem is going to have a great year. Great skills, good table presence.
