| Re: Working my skills I misplaced since playing cash games.. Som comments on your notes -
"Last night I actually Folded 2 big hands in the FT of that 90player DS tournament. there was 8 left, I had 9k in chips and the blinds were 600 1200 with a 200 ante or something like that."
The fundamental difference in playing cards and playing good solid startegy starts with the founduation of how you look at the hand. Now, there may have been some payout reasoning as to why you folded this hand, and there may be others who are strong players at the site who would also fold it, but I do not see the compelling argument here. The information that would describe why you thought this is a sound decision is not there - and in fact, your general description of the hand lends itself to a push - or even a stop and go move.
9k chips - 200/600/1200 structure
In Harrington terms, your "M" is less than 2 (adjusted for 8 players)
You need to give me a REAL compelling reason to lay down the nines here. This is critical stack size time - and you have no time for paitence.
Even without the "M" number in your head, you made the following comment
"Risking it would only given me around 20k which was still far from the 3 chip leaders 40k 80k 40k"
OK, so you need to double up twice to be a force at the table. THIS IS A HUGE RED FLAG. Unless the blinds were tiny, this is all you need to know. If you play weak, you are done for. You might (and did) climb a place or two, but you just cannot wait until you HAVE to push.
Not to be nit picky - but this was a shootout. You finished ahead of 84 players, but you did not really beat that many. You won a 10 palyer SnG and then took 6th in another. This is much easier than taking down a full 90 player tournament. It is STILL a nice acomplishment, but do not fall into the trap of letting short term results cloud your thinking.
I am all for smart loose aggressive play (SLAG BABY), but 32% VPIP without being able to explain the strategy and thought process of playing the "off" hands is a danger sign. We have stats on myself and mega dating back 2-3 seasons. Neither of us is over 30%VPIP, plus neither of us would be calling almost 30% of our stack off with 72. The operative word is CALLING.
If you are truly looking to improve your game, then post some difficult hands to discuss. Be willing to listen to the comments - and then work on the holes in the game. First lesson - try and drop that vpip down to under 20% (less would be ideal, but start small). You will still be able to play the fun hands like JTsuited, but you will be playing them from later position (JTs wouod not be played form EP or most MP positions). |
