Re: My Neteller account compromised - already lost over $1100

I didn't really think $300 was all that high a balance and I don't play high stakes - just .25/.50 NL and the occassional CT tourney.

That's really the smaller component of this though - they withdrew over $800 from my linked checking account via Neteller.

I usually keep $100... If I win, I withdraw and leave $100...

In your situation, you would have still lost the $750 that came right from the bank, so even a P* balance of $20 wouldn't have helped you that much...

Re: My Neteller account compromised - already lost over $1100

All very good and solid info and suggestions, Jim.

In fact, the manager at P* even suggested that my computer might be compromised by a keystroke logging program of some sort without my even being aware of. He said they often aren't caught by spyware or anti-virus programs.

This has been a real shake-up for me. I think I'm done with online gaming for good. Probably with Paypal too as the same type of thing could have happened there although not gaming site related.

3) type the password in a middle of crap on note pad and then cut and paste it into the its slot:

for example say my password is tmj2k then I would do this the first time I entered it:

dekwpatmj2kwaokq

and then cut and paste that into the password slot. after that your computer will remember it and you won't have to do that again, but a keystroke recorded couldn't easily figure it out.

But If your pc is pretty protected like it sounds like Jamby's was then there isn't a lot you can do. Sounds like a leak on Neteller's end, not the user end.

Re: My Neteller account compromised - already lost over $1100

I would think a key stroke logger would show up in the list of active processes. Not the application list, but the list of processes. I would scour that list and see if there is something fishy.

Ive used a program call HijackThis to ID rogue processes, I think its mainly targeted for the browser, but it might help.... Being an IT guy you probably already know about this, but thought I would throw my $.02 at this horrible mess!

GL Jamby!

Re: My Neteller account compromised - already lost over $1100

IT yes - expert on all thing tech - not at all. I certainly appreciate any and all suggestions, ideas, etc.

My specialization is data warehousing and project management so that doesn't make me a web expert for sure.

I'm cautious though and have good habits for the most part (other than using the same ID and password too often).

The P* security dept. manager told me that he thinks the receiving companies will have to pay the money back to Neteller and subsequently to me and he seems to think that I'll only be liable for the ~$66 fee.

Not so sure, but his logic is that they should have matched up the incoming account information with the account information they had and that all kinds of bells should have gone off with red flags. He even went so far as to say that the monies are probably already in a frozen state.

I still haven't heard back from either betway or paradisebet ltd. so don't know much. There are no phone numbers available for either that I've been able to find.

Whoops Sorry Jamby....

If you download hijackthis & post its output I will mull over your running processes and see if there are any malware running in the background. It might help any future problems. Because chances are if this happened once it could happen again.

I am so sorry to hear this. Good luck jamby, with getting it resolved...and quickly. Of course, it doesn't help to have the headaches of dealing with something like this...but, we're rootin' for you. Hang in there....
