Thanks for the hand and analysis, jojobinks (and everyone else). I always find these enlightening. I would've gone the "push" route without hesitation, and that's why I'm not in the same league as you guys.
I personally think raising to 540 over a nearly pot committed small stack from UTG+1 is with 88 is a pretty bad play at this stage in the tourney. This time he was in his best possible scenario with the raise on a semi-steal, but even so he's only a coin flip.
I wouldn't say its pretty bad but definitely aggressive; isolate and apply pressure to the ss. Hill either has to push or fold basically. If hill folds, he still has over 15bb left and an M over 10. If he comes over the top, ruabout could get away from the hand but he'd be getting around 3:1 to call. We also don't know any of the history at this table which would obviously color opinion one way or another.
I'd be curious how you play 88 here? Personally, I don't see a limp here being very profitable unless you think there will be multiple limpers coming along with no other raises. A fold seems overly tight as one of the bigger stacks at the table and a moderate raise in EP by a player that is not very tight (limited info here). Personally, I probably raise also but I make it less than 540 maybe something close to 450 +/- a bit. I'd say this raise will still get the same response out of hill (fold/push) but its easier for me to get away from the hand if hill pushes.
