Before the bill, you're right. After it, what's the point?

I don't see the attraction that people have about sending their rakes overseas. Maybe something needs to be added to that "Play/gamble Responsibly" campaign. Internet gaming in the U.S. has always been illegal, that's why those sites couldn't exist in the U.S., I don't see the point of the cries because you're prohibited from participating in one of those sites if you live in the U.S. Afterall, there's always the opportunity to emmigrate, if it is that important for someone to be able to wager online. "Harrahs, we suck the fun out of gambling!"
I'm sure Benny was spinning in his grave with regards to how the WSOP was run this year. Benny wouldn't let "extra" chips onto the tables, for instance.

Though for the most part, Harrah's Entertainment has little bearing or relationship to the bingo room that was started in Reno way back when, other than the Harrah name. Bill Harrah knew how to take care of both his customers and his employees. Quote: |

But if you read the fine print on the UB link, it says "UltimateBet will be responsible for buying the winners into the event listed in the promotion."

I think harrahs move was to protect themselves and avoid lawyer fees for when the government shows up and says "show us your 3rd party registrations especially those from online gambling sites”! The best defense against the current law is to just avoid all appearance of doing something wrong! I think the announcement actually might have some benefits to some poker players... these sites still want players representing them and this may open the door for more sponsorships, easier to obtain sponsorships and these sites building bigger "teams" of players to represent them! On the other hand I really do think it will create less participants in poker tournaments and not just the WSOP, other tournaments will follow! I know it’s easy to just deposit the 10k into accounts and then the player registers on his own… or let the player register and then wire the money for the player... however there are enough players out there that will second guess tossing that 10k into the pot and going to play that we will seem some of them pocket the cash and never play! Least at this point that’s how I see it…. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
