This whole thing stinks of the Vegas casinos, so I wouldn't be surprised if new legislation gets written soon enough partially legalizing and regulating it (such that Caesars.com et al can be born).

The bill won't stop online gambling by the Americans but it will slow it down a whole bunch. http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/online...l-due-nfl.html |

And despite my leanings in the 9/11 conspiracy thread, I don't believe in conspiracies. I think this has more to do with MSNBC's hypothesis that it was a move by Frist to show himself as "morally strong" to the Christian Right in prepping for a presidential run in 2008. There are a lot of things he's been doing that point that way. |

No business caves that fast to losing most of its market. I expect that at the least, they will end up waiting the 270 days to find out the rules, then circumvent them. At the most, there could be some kind of regulation bill coming in the future designed to keep most of the money in America and going to the American casinos, and these sites want to be able to play under the new bill.
I just don't see gambling sites scrambling around screaming, 'the sky is falling!'. Quote: |

| While I don't deny Frist is partly motivated to pander to the religious right, I don't think it's a major factor. Nobody cares enough about internet gambling to remember it two years from now.
Mainly though, in Washington nothing gets done without money and interests driving it. The politician is just show.

Not a big deal, as a matter of fact, it may be a good thing for some of the folks in the U.S. that may spend too much time in front of their computers and be an opportunity for them to go to commercial cardroom or casino to play live and exercise social interaction skills that may have become rusty from cloistering. And for those who may not have access to commercial enterprises, it's an incentive to get together with friends and play cards in a social environment.
Besides, it's the patriotic thing to do, keep America green and keep the money here, rather than sending it off to some offshore operator. Support your local cardroom and/or casino |

Which, in my mind, is far more fulfilling and rewarding than playing amongst strangers in a cardroom. And we won't even get into the matter of criminal activities and money laundering that is pretty much common place at some of the West Coast cardrooms. Quote: |
