Chips: 4,436 | | | Chopping the pot? I think that's the right term for it.
Is this legit? If not, does it still happen regularly?
$75 guaranteed tourney with low buy-in, min of 9 players. Total buy-in is under $20.
9 people buy-in with the understanding that they will not rebuy and that those who finish in the money will cover the buy-in of those that don't.
Am I missing something here? Other than morals of course. |

if i swap 10% with darvcus, every time i'd cash in a ct tourny i'd give him 10% of it, and vice versa. in the course of the year, it'd help even out the swings.
it gets questionable when you end up at the same table with that guy...can you really play him as tough as anyone else?
at the wpt championship event a couple of years ago, tuan lee and hassan habib were in the final 6. it was well known (though of course vvp and sexton didn't mention it) that habib had 50% of Lee. there were some weird plays (big laydowns) between the two of them, and there was no doubt in my mind that it affected play. |

I think it should be called off in that kind of a situation. Especially when you're going to face huge criticism if you make any questionable plays since everyone will see them. |

Am I missing something here? Other than morals of course. | I think you're asking about colluding with 8 others to take the guaranteed prize pool from the site? I'm sure it's against TOS but it's not immoral. If the site is offering these guarantees and they aren't even running because there are fewer than 9 people then by all means, take advantage of the promotion.
NOW... if there are others besides your group in the tournament and you soft-play or chip-dump to eliminate the "others" first, then yes... THAT is immoral.

Yes, I guess I'm talking about collusion, but only to the extent of taking the pot, not against other players. A number of the games get cancelled every day due to lack of participants. My goal would be to find an empty one and all sign up just before it begins. Not sure what we would do if a random person made it into the mix. I wouldn't really want to make them a public offer to participate, but I certainly wouldn't collude against them either. |
