A most absurd hand. . .

$20+rebuy MTT on stars the other night. i had just taken a beat (my AK loses to AJ - all the money goes in on the A69 rainbow flop, river Jack), and sadly only had $7k going into the hand.

PokerStars Game #6277848399: Tournament #31512900, $20+$2 Hold'em No Limit - Level VI (100/200) - 2006/09/13 - 22:47:51 (ET)

midnghtryder: folds
NoLuv420: raises 3945 to 4545 and is all-in (nice - found my huckleberry)
RiggsB: raises 3945 to 8490 (uh, ok - trying to isolate w/ AK maybe?)
DJ DBA: folds
jakobstar: folds
GreasyTony: folds
shotgun74: folds
Noctus: raises 12935 to 21425 and is all-in (so i guess this guy has kings?)

Re: A most absurd hand. . .

Nice though I guess a lot of bitching at the end of that hand.

My take on plays:

Noctus - Limp UTG with KK this early in tournament is ok but I would have raised a bit. After fireworks, tough laydown but makeable IMHO depending on read of opponents.

HERO - Nothing wrong here.

NoLuv420 - Push with JJ against limper and a raise is fine for short stack.

Riggs - WTF was he thinking, QQ with a UTG limp, raise and reraise all-in in front of him and he raises upto 9k out of an 18k stack at the 100/200 level; fold and wait for a better opportunity IMHO or just call at worst. Then he compounds it by committing his stack to what he has to know is a behind hand at that point but he was probably pot committed in his mind.

One last comment,

This just seems like an insane hand at the 100/200 level of the tourney plus the chip stacks are huge for a round 6; must be the rebuys. How many players total?

Re: A most absurd hand. . .

yeah, noLove420 played his Jacks correctly - no getting away from them here i don't think.

as for me, i went on to lose 1/2 my stack when a shorter stack moved in and i called with QQ in the BB - he had A8s and flopped an ace. held out for a while, ended up moving in pre-flop with AQs in late position, getting called by AJ in the SB. flop was AKJ giving him two-pair. turn was my miracle T, giving me broadway, and putting 3 hearts on the board. river was a heart, and AJ guy was holding the A , so i lose to his 1-card flush. went out in 94th or something like that.

yeah, the $20+R is a pretty big action game. i don't remember how many players exactly, but the wednesday night one typically has between 350 and 480 players, and about 2x in rebuys. first place is typically between 9k and 11k. the sunday night one gets 600+ players. i chopped one of these earlier this year at 3-handed as chipleader for $8,001. they used to only have 1 / week (monday night), but have recently added several more $20+R and a couple of additional $30+R.

JJ moving all in is what really made this a monster pot pre-flop, though given the board, i'm sure the money was going in regardless.
