Chips: 8,910 | | | Pay-Pro just left me a message and freaked me out... For those of you who don't know, Pay-Pro is the transaction merchant for Party Poker, and I'm assuming, all of their skins.
They left a message for me yesterday, mentioning my first name and maybe my last name, but it sounded wrong, telling me they were inquiring about a recent online transaction I had made. This is strange, because I don't belong to PP (or any of their skins). So I call them, and the first thing they ask for is my login name. At which point I tell them that I'm not sure what they were calling about, and that I don't have a login name for PP.
I give them my phone number, which they can't find on record! Strange again.
So I end the call, and promptly call my bank, my credit card co. neteller, etc. Anybody who has access to my money. Not a single bizarre transaction. All my cash is accounted for.
So here's my question. Is it possible that they called me by mistake, and it just so happened that my name and phone number is close to someone else? Could the call have been that random? Or should I just keep a close eye on all my moolah? Or, has PP taken to randomly calling people looking for money? |

Sounds very much to me like scammers got your name and phone number, somehow in connection with playing poker, and that's all they had. They call you, leave a scare message, and try to get you to call back with your login information. Any passwords and other personally identifying information would have been next.
Either way, it didn't work for you. Either you called the scam number, but the fact that you didn't have a login name messed up their script, or you called the real number, and they honestly didn't have any record of you.
This sort of thing is done less and less over the phone nowadays, given the relative cost compared with the expected return, but it still happens.
But I'm thinking attempted scam all the way. |

This said with the understanding "they" contacted you via phone and left a number to call back; whether that is a legit PP number who's to know. |

Chips: 8,910 | | | Re: Pay-Pro just left me a message and freaked me out... The message was a "real person" followed by a recorded message. I took the number down, then googled it to find out who these people were. It was a legit number, but luckily I'm smart enough not to give out any info to ANYBODY over the phone.
Here's the number for those that might want to research independently, 866-299-8893 |

Here's the number for those that might want to research independently, 866-299-8893 | I just called the number. Sounds like some kind of subscription service for processing electronic transactions. Whoever is after your information may be a subscriber, using the service to make things sound “legitimate”.
Again, be careful |

I've been checking all my online accounts pretty carefully, and luckily, no strange transactions. It seemed so random, but I thought it might be a PSO thing, because I signed up, but never did anything with the account. I may change all my passwords, just to be careful. |

One suggestion, and this is something I just did recently because of a major problem, that major problem was having my eBay account hacked into, don't know how they did it, I am really carefull and never click on link in e-mails no matter how real they look I alway go to my browser and go the eBay and look in the my message folder. But anyway it happened, luckily for me I check my account daily so I caught it within an hour of happening and got the 8 auctions that they setup ended and my e-mail changed back after they changed it and also changed my password. Now my old password for eBay wasn't very secure and I did use it elsewere, BIG mistake.
So now I use a program on my PDA, they also have them for PC's. That store all my passwords and credit card numbers, pretty much anything you want it to. I also store some phone numbers I have that don't need to get out. It also has a password generator, so really I don't even know my passwords anymore without looking them up because they are cazy number letter combos. A few I may start to remember over time but I will also be changeing them atleast on a yearly basis. It also lets you print out a master copy of everyting that it is storing, I did this and have it in my safe at home, just incase both my PDA and computer both crap out and I lose everyting I have a hard copy backup.
So just something to think about, mainly about changing your passwords and not using the same one on mulitple sites, I know I did before just because how else can you remember 30, 40 or ? passwords, well now I only need to know 1. Now I mainly only use this for banking and other secured site, basically any site where if someone hacks in and I can lose money, it gets a secure password. I don't think I'm going to have unique passwords for all the forums I'm on just money sites.
