OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

low limit mixed game

NOW - they add this mess. I needed this last year before I was in school.

It is hard to find many players with adequate knowledge of all the HORSE games (the at-large players, not pros- but they would ignore 1/2 anyway). RAZZ is typically one that many people have no clue about, and you can rake it in just by being finiky with starting hand selection and some intelligence with chasing.

If you guys are playing there tonight - I am sure that u will see me. Look for stuey

FWIW - Ray Zee's book is the "Supersystem" of hi-low games. Definately worth the cash. TWO TWO TWO books in one.

Re: HORSE is here

After I saw this thread last night, I went to look at the HORSE games. And lo and behold, there were smoore and SpaceMonkey sitting around having fun. Naturally I started to bug them. Anyway, it looked like a lot of fun, especially when smoore had a 4 up in razz and then paired it on 4th street!

The players looked pretty weak from what I saw, and I would love to try this, but I worry about the limit. Funny thing though -- I have no qualms about playing 3/6 in the casino (and am considering the 5/10), but I have never played as high as 1/2 online.

I have a question though -- if smoore had a good low in his down cards to go with that 4 up, wouldn't it be worth taking one more card off even when the 4 pairs? In stud, I will not necessarily abandon a really good hand that bricks on 4th (for example a high 3 card straight flush) -- if the betting is weak, I will take one more card off. Is this wrong to do in razz? (Or am I a crappy stud player as well...)

Re: HORSE is here

I think at that point you gotta look at what's out on the board and remember what's been folded so you have an idea of what your chances are to improve your low.

Haha, yeah the poker gods heard me jawing and decided to pair me. I had to fold JJJ later in Razz. Jeez, I can't even remember the last time I got JJJ in stud. As far as peeling 5th street, I didn't want to do it 3-way, if the pot had more dead money in it I probably would have peeled one. Hopefully the guy on my left pairs there and we can actually fight. 3-way or HU (don't remember which) I just fold paired boards. Might be too tight, but I doubt if I'm giving much up. Don't forget, all I know about razz I learned at homegames, so I'm far from an expert.

right now, as long as you have a decent stomach for risk the games are just so juicy that almost anyone can sit there. Well, last night anyway I'm about to find out for today. I got stuck $100 last night but managed to get unstuck before I went to bed. I kinda did the fishy, "I'm just going to play until I'm unstuck!" but with that crowd it worked out.

it may be slightly incorrect, but I just count "groups" of cards. 16 aces thru fours "great cards" 16 fives thru eights "good cards" and "the rest". Since I'll rarely get to showdown with worse than a ten it works pretty well for me.

Of course, I did get to a checked down showdown last night with a very ugly queen after drawing to a friggin' wheel... and WON! He double paired but his board was very scary looking. I don't think I've ever won a razz hand with a queen before.

In stud I only have to remember which cards fit with my hand, in razz, they all do so I lightened the mental load a bit with the grouping.

Re: HORSE is here

Heh, that was quick. Today they have 2/4 3/6 5/10 and 10/20 mixed too!

I think I'll stick with 1/2 ; )

Re: HORSE is here

Ok, I've been playing 1/2 for about 45mins and I'm up like $60.

I can live with this.

Re: HORSE is here

Word of advice, if you sit out double check the game when you come back.

Switched from Razz to Stud while I was gone. Ended up playing A-6 till 6th str when I figured out why opponent kept calling with 2 faces up.

Damn.

WOW -

if today was an indication, I will have to switch my limit roll to party.

Since I will be off a week, I was planning to work through lunch so I could get home early. NAH - read this thread and just had to go try it.

OK - short term results mean nothing, but up $60 in an hour playing 1/2 makes for a good start. I REALLY tiled one of the big "I usually play higher" talkers when I hit the nut flush in stud8 (he had the K high, lol). Two games later (and I mean we were playing O8 by then), he was still talking about it. I guess he did not recognize the fact that I had 2 draws going and "somehow"I realized that he hit his flush and thus, kept the betting under control until 7th I almost had the scoop as well, but the 3rd guy in hit on seventh too.

Plus - won a SnG at the same time.

Lisa - ditto what JM said. Depends on what is showing - and your hole cards. If you have three to the wheel, maybe cal one bet. A244 is definately a call. If the other players are all showing overs to your hand, that is another time to call.

This is SO much better than the SnG format at FullTilt. You barely get to play 4 hands of any one game there due to the blinds rising.
