Chips: 3,968 | | | Turn+River Stars I was counting my chips and trying to figure out how I was going to spend first prize... 200/400 blinds. I raised PF to 1600 one before the button and got called. He goes all in after the flop for 15,000 so I push my 6500 or so more in...
And then it happened.

I had AA three times in my first 92 hands of one of those today. I won two pots pre-flop, one uncontested and the other I reraised the big stack and put myself all-in. the first time I had AA, though, I was about UTG3 and UTG5 reraised all-in. I had made it 120 with 15/30 blinds. He raised to about 1600, I knew it was AK or AQ suited. He shows A Q , he gets a queen on the flop and a queen on the turn and I go down to 1900 and lose a 3700 chip pot. With 5600, I would've been top-5 at that point. I stayed in the top-30 from about hand number #3 until I busted out with AJ suited (2hrs later). Went all-in, SB calls 20% of his stack with 88, I get an ace on the flop and he gets a miracle backdoor flush. I went out in 27th, 9 shy of the money. AQ guy finished 14 spots ahead of me.
I'm not complaining about the action, I mean AQ guy got his money in as an 89% favorite to go home. I wasn't tilted at all, and played my way to a decent finish. Some days, though, things just don't go as you'd like. |

Okay, the turn was 1 in 22.5 and the river was 1 in 44. I was a big favorite pre-flop, but I was behind about 95% to 5% going in to the river... And as a final kick in the nuts, fate threw quad fives out there...
I've been on both ends of miracle pulls, and it always stings when you are on the short end. But life goes on...that's why they call it gambling. Quote: |

I was playing the Doyle's Room bounty tournament in 2005, and I made it about 2.5xBB from UTG1 with KK. I wanted to get raised. When I got a big raise, I considered that he was going to call an all-in with any ace as far as I knew, and I conservatively cold-called to set up a possible huge pot. Q and two rags on the flop, I check-raised about three times his bet. He hesitates and goes all-in with 10-10. Facing about 200 to collect 4k, I call knowing it's going to be tens or nines. I'm very excited till he gets running tens. So from 91% at cashing in the
top-27 for $100+ ($27 buy-in), I ended up with a very motley finish outside the money. I had chips, but it sent me down to about 1200. I loved his logic, though.
He says in the chat box, "I had to call, the blinds would've eaten me up." I've told this story before. Yes, it's better to get 100% of your money in as a 91% underdog, than to wait for the next hand or two and be all-in with a 65-35 proposition. Yes, you should always call with an underpair in a 9-1 spot, instead of doing it on the next hand in a 3-2 spot.
That's how things go, though, no big whoop. |
