Chips: 830 | | | LImit Stud hi/lo tourney at P* Hey guys.
I could use some help. I entered this freeroll about 3 hours ago on a lark. Unfortunately, it's a game that I've never played before. I've played stud for sure with my family and friends when playing dealer's choice, but never the hi/lo variety.
Well, I've done pretty well for my lark so far. 3528 folks entered, 210 remain and I'm currently in 66th place.
I don't get the game though. Why is there sometimes no low hand? It's really throwing me into a tailspin.
Also, is there any kind of special strategy for starting hands when you play hi/lo?
Thanks,
jamby

jamby | Okay,
With STUD and OMAHA(2 in your hand) you need to make a 5 card hand "8" or lower to qualify for low.
NOw, if your board reads QK1085 and you have K43 in your hand, there is no low. 8543 is only 4 cards to the low.
I could go on and on explaining scenarios but it would take like a TON of typing and I mainly "HUNT and PECK"
Good starting hand in OMAHA would be AA22 double suited. Stud is a game where you have to sense and read everyone's board to make a calling, folding or raising decision(s). |

Chips: 830 | | | Re: LImit Study hi/lo tourney at P* Excellent. This helps considerably. I didn't realize that all 5 cards had to be below 8 or below.
I'm still hanging on in the tourney. Kind of fun really. 146 remain - I'm now in 4th place.
Thanks again. Rep on the way for the help.
Could use more - competition is getting tougher.

Chips: 211 | | | Re: LImit Study hi/lo tourney at P* REMEMBER your absolute NUT low is the WHEEL!!
That could also win the HIGH but not normally.
Anytime you have A2 in your hand and there are 3 other cards 8 or under, bet that all the way unless you see other players with possible other low hand(s) that might crack your low or you could also meet the possibility of getting QUARTERED which always sucks!
SCREW Hold'EM. I am a huge fan of HI/LOW pot limit cash games. Anyone that can hold 2 cards in their hand can win at hold'em. That is why there are 8800 people at the MAIN EVENT this year. |

3rd place out of 131 remaining players. No money in it though, just advancement to another tourney. Quote: |

Let me know of any scenarios that you might need help with that you wish you could have done differently. I can definitely help you out. Consider the same with Hi/LOW OMAHA also! |

Chips: 830 | | | Re: LImit Study hi/lo tourney at P* Still going, but not quite as strong as before. 19th of 54 remaining players. Not sure if I'm playing worse now that I know about the low hand thing or just that the competition is tougher.

Chips: 830 | | | Re: LImit Study hi/lo tourney at P* I'm definitely getting that impression. This is quite a game. So fast too. I've never seen online betting quite this fast before.
I'm now in 2nd place out of 33 remaining players. 24 move on to the next tourney so I imagine things will loosen when the 25th player is knocked out.
Crazy game.

Chips: 830 | | | Re: LImit Study hi/lo tourney at P* We're now at 5+ hours and there are 24 remaining players in the tourney. I'm still hanging in there. Not really sure what I'm playing for now though since this is to advance to the next tournament level. I'm in 5th place now.
I'm exhausted.
