Chips: 265 | | | Freeroll money what should I do next? A few months ago placed in the money on a freeroll hosted by HPT and won $20.00. So played some limit and no limit ring games small stakes, and turned it into $40 ish.
A little while after went a bit tilty and turned it into $.02 .
So played there Freeroll and placed for like a buck or so, never went back to the ring games, and just played the tiny SnG's.
I have since turned the $.02 into $47.56 . I seem to do better in the tourney style for whatever reason. I have been playing $1 - $5 sng's, should I just continue at those levels? Should I step it up or will the competition be that much better at the say $10.00 -$15.00 sng's?
What do you experts think? |

What do you experts think? | 1-5 SnG
$10 ones will make that $40 dissappear quick
no matter how much better you are then the field, Poker happens and you will have dry spells
The "rule of thumb" for SnG is like 20 buyins for a given level. You are shy of this for even the $5 level - so I would recommend that you be very careful even at your current levels.
Building a decent bankroll cen be a slow process. I know that it is frustrating at first to see how little it actually goes up even though are winning - but this should be the most conservative portion of your game. hhmmmmmm - sounds like an artice submission, -- JoJo???? |

Tried my hand at another $5.00 SnG and placed 1st for $22 so the huge bankroll is now up to $60 ish lost a $2 and a $3 after that. I think your right about sticking to the levels lower then $5, and I will try my best to do stay at those levels.
I diffenately do not think I am the best at the tables I sit at just maybe the most patient right now, and almost always need 1 semi-suckout each time.
I think the patience helps me pick up the blinds in the later rounds when they are high compared to chip stacks. Which keeps me in there until my down cards give me something to actually go after others chips.
Should I bother writing any of this down here? Is this helpful to anyone, or even me.
What is everyones strategy in these low stake SnG's? I know most of you play ring games online at higher stakes, but for the people that play at $1-$5 SnG's do you try and stick to a strategy? |

Chips: 1,861 | | | Re: Freeroll money what should I do next? The winning formula for low stake single table tournaments is twofold:
1 - SUPERtight early
2 - Pushbot late
Supertight means open folding AJo in EP. It means that if it's raise before you, you chuck 88 and lower. It means you play basically TT+, AK from any position, add 99 and AQ in MP, add 88 and AT+ in late position. If raised, play TT+, AK. If raised and reraised you *normally* throw away a hand as strong as QQ.
Pushbot means that you learn the ICM. Search google for "poker ICM". it's the independent chip model and it tells you to do counterintuitive things, like push with any two when the blinds warrant it.
It's boring but it's profitable. This is how most winning multitablers play, at least up to the 22's. I make that statement with anecdotal evidence from 2+2 and my own PT stats. The anecdotal evidence suggests it works fine up to the 55's.
On bankroll: The "20 buyin" minimum is for a PROVEN WINNING PLAYER. I'm personally not comfortable moving up until I have 50 buyins and I'm looking for reasons (not excuses) to move back down. One reason to move up ahead of your bankroll is rake. I don't think ANYONE should play the 6's on party, the vig is just too large. I say take a shot at the 11's and if you lose the $100 then oh well. I cannot beat a 20% vig at the levels I play, I could probably beat the 6's. In order to get yourself to think about the vig in a realistic way, don't say, "I play the $1 SnG's." Say, "I play the $1.20 SnG's." After saying it enough times it will sink in.
GL
edit: I guess I would technically beat $30+6 tournaments on party but it would not be worth my time, I would make more money playing 1/2 limit. I'm 4 tabling them so that would cost me $12/hr. I play in sets and take a break until the start of the next hour. I don't want to discuss my ROI (some will think I'm bragging and some will think I 'm a donkey) but suffice it to say I'd make more money farming in EQ or DaoC if they charged 20% vig.

I heard this suggestion from Phil Gordon a few months back and it really is a great piece of advice. If you cant afford to buy in 50 times to that sit n go you are at the wrong one.
Another thing to is to play at your level. On Fox Sports tonight they had a show I've never seen before, Inside Poker, and they had a indepth interview with Greg Raymer. One thing he said that makes alot of sense is to play at your level. He said he could easily play at the 1k/2k tables but he knows his level and where he feels more comfortable at the 300/600 tables. He then went on to say he could even level down and play 20/40's and do real well but he makes more profit at 300/600. Two big things I took away from the interview was like I said to play at your level (if you are a good player, don't play the 1$ SnG's as most there are below your level and don't allow you to perform at your best.) and the second thing was where you are most profitable. It may take you time to build up to a bankroll you feel comfortable with but once you get that you gotta play where you make the most money per hour.
Personally I play ALOT of SnG's. I started out playing the 5+1 so I wasnt risking too much money but you are also getting a decent pay out. 1st:25 2nd:15 3rd:10. By the time I got my bankroll where I wanted it I moved up to the 10+1 and you get the point. I've realized by playing many of each table and sitting down and doing a few hours of math that I am most profitable playing the 50+5 and two SnG's at a time. Sure I play the larger 100 and 200 SnG's but not normally. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
