Called several limpers for $10 with random cards on the button (just to vary my play and 'cause I was bored).
Flopped 3 spades for a flush draw and a straight draw. Lotsa ways to lose and I woulda folded to a big bet.
Looking for a straight on the turn, but got a flush instead -- big problem since mine was only 4 high.
Villain bet small on the turn, everybody else folded, but I called. He had for the nut flush, but did not bet enough to make me lay down. I had a made flush and maybe he didn't. Plus he'd been betting into pots to steal 'em.
I was ready to fold my flush to another bet if any other card had come out on the river. But I hit the only card left in the deck that would win for sure - a Steel Wheel. He bet out again, and I had to come over the top all-in. He called of course, and was crippled.
Kinda embarrasing all the way, but I'll take it! He had two opportunities to make me fold, but let me stay in too long.
Limp and not big raises into you, you didn't get as lucky as he got stupid. He played it poorly and it worked out. Still a bad beat for him, but his play wasn't very good.
I have a bad beat story from a samll tournament I played with some friends. Actually, it was a few bad beats bunched together and all against the same opponent.
1st bad beat story:
I'm in the BB for $800 and get a J3o. The SB calls and I check. The flop comes down JhAhJd. The SB bets $1500 and I raise to $5000. He goes all-in and I call. He has Qh8h for the nut flush draw. Turn and river both come Q & Q making him a better full house than mine. I'm still in the tourney but could have gone heads up had I eliminated him there. I was chip leader before that pot.
2nd bad beat story:
Same scenario a few hands later and I've built up my stack to a reasonable amount again. Slightly more than the guy who beat me out a few hands before. Again I'm in the BB this time for $1000 and I get 75o. SB calls and I check again. Flop comes down 8d7d5h. I hit two pair. The SB checks and I bet $3000. He goes all in and I call once again. He has Q6o, much better than I thought (i thoguht he may have the flush draw again but it turns out he has the open ended straight draw). He hits a 9d on the turn giving him the straight but now I have 4 diamonds and still a chance at a full. River doesn't help and he takes down the pot once more. I'm down to my final $7000 after this pot.
3rd bad beat story (final one!)
again I'm up against the same guy with the blinds at 700/1400. I'm in the BB with Q8o. The SB calls once again and I check to see the flop. Flop hits me well, it's 852 rainbow. He goes all in and I call after some thought. I'm severely short stacked compared to the other 2 players so I need to double up here and I have a decent hand with this flop. we both turn over Q8 but he hits runner-runner spades to make the flush and eliminate me on this night. I felt I played an amazing game this night but I just couldn't get my hands to hold up. I always had all my money in the pot with the best hand but was outdrawn every time. Nonetheless, this night I think was an extreme situation and I will not likely see this type of outcome again anytime soon.
