woohoo -- won limit sng!!

I just played in my first ever limit tournament and first sng and won it all!!! Yaay for me! It was one of them high-stakes $5 ones too, so I won $17 PURE PROFIT!! Gonna buy me a set of customs with that big cash....

I guess I suck slightly less at limit (which I play almost exclusively) than at no-limit (as seen in my outrageously mediocre performance in the ct tournaments) -- and at least I don't have to worry about accidently raising 30x the big blind! (I actually saw Jojo make that same mistake in a ct tournament -- he misclicked, he said. If Jojo can do it, I can feel less ashamed of my own mistake, although mine was live where it is MUCH harder to misclick.)

Interesting table: no more than one maniac, although a lot of LPPs (I found myself betting into trip aces, who only called, never raised my bets on a relatively unthreatening board, especially since he had a good kicker). We also saw quad 7s (w pocket 77) twice within one orbit, and shortly after that a straight flush to the K (poor other person had nut flush, of course!). Unfortunately, none of them were my hands...

But it certainly seemed rather easy, although I did get lucky once or twice (which one has to in order to win). I certainly expect to do much worse if I play more of these, but I wonder if anyone here plays limit sngs on a regular basis and can tell me whether they are indeed profitable for a decent low-limit player. FWIW, I play mostly for fun, but generally do a little better than break-even. And I'm not looking to make a killing or build a huge bankroll -- just to keep enough ahead of my account so that I can make my weekly donation to the chiptalk tournament!

(Sorry for the brag post, but I did ask a question. And I need SOMETHING to feel happy about after Monday night's game: why oh why are my beloved Packers losing so much? It is pure pain to watch....)

Re: woohoo -- won limit sng!!

Congrats on your first win. Yes they are profitable. I have been playing a bunch this week cause I cashed out my paradise account and left $8.xx in there. I've been flipping between limit and nl and am up to 120 playing those $5 shorthanded sitngo's so their profitable

As for the Packers welcome to my world. I'm a Browns fan I feel your pain

Re: woohoo -- won limit sng!!

Here's a football excuse similar to "...but they were sooooted": The Packers are playing better football than their record would indicate, but with a few key leaks.

I also played several SnGs during the Monday night game, with 1 1st, 1 2nd, and 2 just out of the money. Ain't it great to win! Congrats on your first of many wins.

Re: woohoo -- won limit sng!!

limit and PL refers to the game being played. Fixed limit means there is a set amount you can bet and raise on each street. You must bet or raise the increment at that stage of the tourny. Pot limit (PL) is sort of like No limit (NL) only you can only bet as much as what's in the pot. ie... a pot has $380 on the flop the max bet at that time is $380 say you bet $380 and someone calls now theres $1140 in the pot. The most you can bet now on the turn is $1140

Shhh! You stumbled on my goldmine, keep it quiet...
I have been playing limit sit n gos for about the last nine months and found them to be the most profittable for my game. Mistakes are not as costly, and many beginners start there. I am usuallly a cash ring game player, and these tourneys fit with my style of play.
The main trick to limit tourneys is patience, and lots of it. You make more money by waiting and taking down the big pots than trying to push the action and take a bunch of the small ones. Made hands like high pocket pairs are always good, but they have a little less value (are more vulnerable) in limit tourneys in that you cannot force people off their draws as easily, and it is hard to protect them. The drawing hands are the best, because it costs less to complete them, and you will usually get enough action to make it worth the chase. Suckouts are more frequent, and can be annoying, but with a lot of patience, money lost to a suckout will be gained right back, and then some.
Another key to these tourneys (as well as no-limit) is being able to switch gears when the table gets more short-handed. I prefer to play the tourney tight in the beginning, and loosen up according to how many players there are left. When on the bubble, aggression is always the most important. Try to be the most aggressive of the players. If I find that I cannot be the most aggressive, I will tighten up slightly and let one of the others get taken out by the aggressor. Once you get in the money, pour on the aggression big time, and it will usually catch that other aggressor off guard and he will tighten up.
Congrats on your win, and enjoy these tourneys...they are a lot of fun.
