Dutch Boyd - Online poker without a rake?

I found this today - http://www.rakefree.com/about_us.htm

While it looks to still be in the planning phase, I'm wondering how an online poker room can survive without a rake?

Advertising?
Flat rate unlimited monthly fee?
Per Hand or maybe "per flop" fee?

Re: Dutch Boyd - Online poker without a rake?

Hmm good question. But does anyone really worry about the rake?? It seems to be such a miniscule percentage of the pot as to be negligible.

Wow.

I am a reasonable winner at low stakes online poker. In a decent month, I may make $1,500 playing 2/4-3/6. At the site I was playing at for ages, I got 30% rakeback. My rakeback for the month would often be around $1,200.

This means that the rake from my pots in a month appraoched $4,000.

Rake is nowhere near negligible.

If anything will kill this, it will be the infamous "Dutch Boyd" name.

Right or wrong, he was accused of operating a site that went down the tube and players lost their money in their account. There were lots of discussions at RGP over this topic.

I was not even playing online at that time so personally I didn't lose anything but I would rather be safe and not play there.

Yup, the very same one. And it doesn't look like he's making any effort to hide it either.

Poker Spot. Boyd writes about it here, but I think his explaination is a bit fishy. http://www.rakefree.com/faq10.htm#faq

At the very least, he doesn't seem too good at choosing who to do business with, so I would keep my money away from the site until it had a good track record.

I believe that he's been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Mental illness, maybe. I'm not so sure that I'd refer to it as a mental deficiency though.
