Started playing at UB again the other day (bonus jumping) and ran into an interesting example of how not to play quads. The villian (foos1) appears to be a fairly loose, passive (85% VP$IP, 0 PFR with only 20 hands in my PT DB). The table seems loose passive (38% VP$IP and less than 1 for PFR).
Here's the hand.

Here's my thought process.
Preflop
======
I have a marginal hand (so-so low, so so hi) that I limp with in MP. The villian's hand is just horrible though to limp with in any position though.
Flop (755)
=========
So so flop for me, oe str8 (non-nut hand) and str8 flush (nut hand) draws though my low probably won't play; I'll play it while its cheap. Foos1 min bets $1 and I call along with 2 others. I'd say he's kind of testing the waters. I put him on either a 5 or nut low draw maybe slowplaying 77 at worst (this would be a bad play). In hindsight, this probably isn't a bad bet for foos1 he has bottom trips with no low and limited redraws. If I had the 5 with not much else, I would have bet at least $2 maybe as much as $3.
Turn (755)(5)
============
Scary card now. Foos1 MIN BETS AGAIN, 2 fold and I call because its still cheap, I'm a longshot draw to a monster and no one is really showing any power. With only 2 players my low doesn't look as bad now. At this point, I figure theres a good chance foos1 has the case 5 and he's slowplaying it. Worst case scenario, he has A25x with which he should still be betting harder (at least 1/4 pot bets). In hindsight, this is just a horrible play. His hand has no low and he's just begging for someone to call with a low draw and take all the profit out of the hand. If your greedy, maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 pot bet to entice a call and hope the the river brings a blank or play conservatively and pot it right now and maybe take it down now. For any decent bet, I'm out of this hand.
River (755)(5)(3)
===============
Woo hoo, I hit my monster. I'm just begging that he has that 5 now and not the nut low. Finally, he makes a decent bet ($13) and I raise him back all-in. He calls, shows quads and heads to the ATM. After that there was a lot of table talk about a bad beat but no one commented on how horribly he played his hand.
Suffice to say, I invested $3 (pf, flop, turn) to hit a monster and take down a $90 pot. Just goes to show, free or cheap cards can cost a lot.
