Is Party Poker Paranoid?

I believe I heard similar tales on 2+2 forums once but wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience with Party Poker.

I recently completed the Instant Bankroll program that Merlin told us about. I got the free cash and cashed out all the money from Party.

The next day I get a call and email from Pay Pro, the company that handles payouts from Party Poker. They start questioning me about my account stating that they need to ask me a bunch of questions about my account and that I have to answer else they will be forced to put my account on hold.

I called them back from my work number to see what they wanted. They asked for my name, address, email and birthday. Stuff I expected anyway. But then they said that I could not use my work phone number as a registered number so they said to change it to my home number and call back from home so that they could verify.

So later that day at home I call them back up. Well then they started saying that their records show that there were over 20 other people with different account names all accessing Party Poker from my PC and that they would not be able to allow me to keep my account open.

I laughed at this as my PC is on a private home network in my house and I know that nobody else uses my PC to play Party Poker. They started listing out the names of 20 people saying - do you know this person. NO. How about this person? NO. How about this person? NO!!!!!

After enduring 10 minutes of seemingly ridiculous line of questioning I began to wonder what the heck was going on. They said that they are only trying to protect me and my account from being mis-used and that they would need me to now fill out a form and submit a copy of my drivers license in order to keep my account from being locked up.

I'm almost laughing at this point. All my money is out of that Party Poker account anyway and I have no big desire to play at Party Poker anytime soon - but want to leave the option open just in case I WANT to play there again someday.

This form and photo ID copy sounds a bit bogus. They seem a bit paranoid about my PC connection. I use COMCAST as my ISP and have a floating IP address and get one from the pool of IP's that are available. So it may look to Party Poker that I'm sharing the same PC as all those other people.

My thoughts are this, I'm almost thinking that this Pay Pro company is pissed that I cashed out making money and not giving Party Poker any winnings off me. Now they want me to go through hoops to play there again. I'm about ready to tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.

I'm also very suspicious of all this extra information they want to gather from me - I don't want to fall victim to identify theft. Giving them my birthday and email address and mailing address already worries me.

Anyone else run into this problem? The company uses all outsourced workers from India to collect this info and do their dirty work. I smell a rat. What experiences have you all had with Party Poker?

There are a number of companies that are now asking for a copy of a photo ID.

You would think they would go to the trouble of gathering all this info BEFORE they let you get an account.

I guess they feel that they first should let them deposit money, get them hooked, then lock up their account and force them to fork over info in order to get it out.

But in my case I cashed out BEFORE they could lock it up. hehe. I'm about to say screw it and just not play there again.

Poker Stars never gave me this type of treatment in over 12 months.

i am still playing on Party with my instant bankroll, but I haven't had any trouble. It could be that your floating IP (as you described) is the issue, and combined with your quick cash out they may be trying to verify that you did not have a previous account and use instant bankroll for a free hundred bucks.

Either way I would definitely not give them any information if you already have the money out. Party is not based in the US and just as you can't do much to them if they screw you, they can't do much to you either other than lock down your account. If you are not going to play there anyway just tell them in your most polite Eric Cartman voice to "suck my b@lls!"

I had to endure this same line of questioning when I withdrew my instant bankroll proceeds. I only had a list of about 3-4 people who had used the same IP, but it still had me somewhat concerned. I also never had to submit any additional information. I'm not sure what I would have done in that case....

I read about a similar thing in a Swedish newspaper. Some guy won a lot of money on poker and when he tried to cash out, the online casino claimed that he had been using multiple accounts and so they freezed his account. His ISP tried to explain to them that several users can have the exact same IP but they wouldn't listen. Dunno if he ever got his money

I wonder if they'll give my wife a hard time. She just signed up for the instant bankroll, but I couldn't because I already play for cash at PP. I wonder if she should even bother to continue on, if she wins they'll probably get my multiple PP accounts.

Standard operating procedures. They get scammed for thousands daily. They do this to ensure you're legit. Pain in the ass? Yes. But nothing to be paranoid about whatsoever. Also, you can black out your DL number on the copy you submit them. I think they actually encourage you to do that.

You should be glad they have these procedures, actually. While in the short term, it's a HUGE pain in the ass, you should feel more comfortable knowing that if someone ever tries to hack your account, they'll take notice.

Party has no problem with two different people playing from the same address and IP. HOWEVER, your accounts likely will be frozen and you will be told to call them. They'll want to talk to both you and your wife to verify you're real.

Why? Because thousands of people sign up their wives, dads, uncles, daughters, sons, without them knowing they've been signed up to take advantage of the bonuses.

Hmm, this is an interesting post.

My brother finished the Instant Bankroll promo a couple weeks ago, withdrew $150 but left $50 to continue to play with and he did not get any calls or run into any problems. It might be an idea to leave some money in there; I mean you can keep making money at PP just like any other site so rather than completely emptying your account just remove your profits and make regular withdrawls as you PP account grows.

When I did a cash out, they called and verified my account information. No hassles or anything else of that nature.

Giving them your id is supposed to stop them from doing the review process they do, which takes up to 48 hours for them to complete before the release the funds.
