YES - it is a brag post - but I had such a great run I needed to share.
Had some poor luck at my latest favorite game (small run of bad beats and lousy cards at Pacific 3/6). Was going to take a break for a few days to rest.
Get a call Thursday morning from my daughters school - she was sick and needed to go home. My wife just started a new job - and I had to be the one to go. Not a big deal - but a child with stomach flu is not that fun to look after.
Lots of free time - and she gets to pick the TV stations. What to do? Heck, lets play some poker. I stay away from limit games and decide to fire up pokerstars.
They had a rebuy supersat to the WCOOP going. I figured that I would sit in a bit as it was cheap ($5).
Only spent $20 - and I am qualified for one of the 215 tournaments. MAn - I cannot believe some of the players. Even at the final table - the big stacks had no clue. I was chip leader for almost the last hour - making sure that I played the bully pretty well. At the end - one guy only had 6000 chips left. He goes all in a couple of times - and the dude with 125,000+ does not call. Heck - I only had 35,000 at that point (middle of the pack) and would have called if he did (playing the pack against the small stack). He ended up winning the last seat after stealing many times and doubling up.
Tried another one later ($3 rebuy)
SO CLOSE ( and this would have been worth 500 wsoop chips). Busted out 13th (9 got seats, 10th got some cash). Ended up shortstacked and had to push all in with Q9suited. Former chipleader was tilting and called 1/2 his remaining stack with 78. He rivered a flush and I go home.
But later -
and I SHOULD have taken 1st. Had that guy down to 2 big bets and he hot a big card rush (2 of his hole cards were AA for like 5 of 10 hands).
Had some more time while she was sleeping - and managed to play my way out of the limit funk and posted some big gains there too.
A great weekend for me - not so much for my daughter (at least on Thursday - she stopped puking on Friday).
