i'll start the discussion: I'm the worst player ever!

the story: hand #2, i'm UTG. mattythatguy is on my right in the BB, and i know him to be a tight/rather conservative player. i raise with KQs, even though that's a dumb move at this point in the tournament. the blinds aren't worth stealing, players are looser in the first rounds, i have to bet through 8 guys, any A is a favorite, et cetera, et cetera.

folds to matty, who min-raises. a couple of things here:
  • when a tight/conservative player re-raises out of position, look out kids.
generally, min-raises are scary. people like to use them to tie you to a pot, and often means they're afraid you'll fold

i make some sort of smart-alecky comment, and call.

the flop comes KXX. matty bets, 200 i think. at this point, i guess he could have AA, KK, QQ, or AK. if i had given it a seconds' thought, i'd have run for my life.

disclaimer: i had just finished playing 3 tables of .01/.02 NL on PS for an hour. i don't reccommend it before a tournament: too different.

so i raise. i don't hate my raise in retrospect, if i used it for the right reason. it should have been used to tell me where i was at. i raised 2.5 his bet or so. i've still got 900 chips here, btw, so i should have been able to get away from the hand...

he reraises all in (1400 total!) Now he can only have an overpair or a set. i remember thinking "oh darn, a set"

i nearly instantly called, and he showed his AA. no help, and i'm left with 60 chips!

btw, nearly two hours later, down to the final 5, matty had 2800 chips. playing T/A works!

here's the hand history, for posterity:

I started out good got a big pot with KK that held up. After that all down hill.

This was my death (riverd). Tried to raise all in to get Darvcus off his raise and got riverd. The next hand he knocked someone else out with a flush on the river. I believe he had Ad 6d this time.

Oh well there is always next time.

Jojo, that was a very eloquent account of my fav. hand from last night's tourney. I'm just sorry it was against you.

I will say that as T/A as I was, there were some points where I was as high as 4 or 5 thousand, and made some brutal plays.

My second fav. hand was the one where I captured third place after going down to T1400. The other three stacks were around T12K, T11K, & T8K or so. The two big stacks go heads up in a raggedy looking flop and Puzzlemonkey prevails over Technoguru's all-in, landing me in third.

I had a great time in the tournament. Thanks to all who participated, I'm looking forward to the next one.

Good competition all around. I "bit" into a couple of pots I shouldn't have. Started out on a positive note but I think J5 had me on a pot and I struggled to come back from then on. Barely eeked into the final table but my stack of chips were as short as the dwarf in my avatar. Went all-in with a pair of Tens preflop and got called by Techno with a KTo who promptly caught a King on the flop. Ah well - poker!

Had an earlier hand where I pushed in big with a big pair vs. another with a smaller pair only to see 5 cards make a straight on the board that paired the pot. Would have liked to have taken that one down but was not to be.

Fun time once again. Thanks to all who participated.

I beg to differ. You didn't even make the "final table" in terms of bonehead reads.

I got into a pot that I had no business even being in in the first place. Then on the flop, I thought two other guys were making plays on each other and I'd sneak in there with my top pair (and maybe a suckout), scoop the pot, and triple up. Common sense was blinded by the mountain of chips in the pot and wishfull thinking. Of course, they each had overpairs. I didn't suck out: I just sucked, and was out.

I came into the final table near the top, and played awful. Its a blur, but I do remember trying to be aggressive, making some bluffs, and getting called frequently. Overall, very poor play by me, and others playing very well, including Tiki-chips-man who tripled up fairly quickly from one of the shorter stacks.

Anyone know how to retrieve hand histories from the tournament?

you can set up instant hand histories through PS so that HHs are stored on your computer. then you can pull them up whenever you like.

i use pokertracker for my online play, which keeps every hand i ever play and every hand i ever see anyone else play...that's where i got my HH from.

www.pokertracker.com btw...
