Chips: 4,248 | | Last week may have been one of my last tournaments for this quarter as one of my classes was changed from Monday morning to Thursday afternoon; I now get home around 7:30pm (PST) and unless I wanted to try and do the Helmuth thing and get blinded for the first hour (I don't) it leaves me out for the Thursday games.
Good luck to everyone the rest of the way!

At this point, your stack is down to maybe 1300-1350. This is actually a vary typical place to be at this point in the tournament -- hovering somewhere below the starting chip stack, with the third level looming. As with the vast majority of players still in, you're going to have to win a race or two in short order to double up and make it to the final table. In one tourney where I was late, I picked up some cards and did very well.
The point is, you can easily make a solid showing even if you miss the first two levels, so don't count yourself completely out. |

Chips: 7,134 | | | I think he's saying he doesn't want to pay $11 for a tournament he'll be 30-60 minutes late for. |

Chips: 4,248 | | Speakeasy, you make a good point because when the blinds are low I do find that even my better hands do not get paid off too much since not everyone is willing to put their whole stacks to risk that early. But I typically only get a few good hands per tournament, and just thought of folding a premium pair or something else I could have accumulated chips is what gets me.
I am just not at the point where my skill outweights my cards; I am still pretty card dependant so I need those big hands (as well as one or two big suckouts) to compete in these events. It might not be so bad for me anyway, it is a lab course and I do not have labs every single week, and I may be finished early on some nights. So I should be able to make a couple more this quarter, maybe even enough to squeek into the finals.
EDIT: I guess I could have saved myself a couple hundred words by just saying Yeltzen is right (and I bet he never gets tired of hearing that!)

We actually held one on short notice, although only two players showed up (SpaceMonkey and me). Might consider this option. |
