Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup - July 23, 2011 weekend
*posted with Ten's permission*
Anyone interested in attending an "Official ChipTalk Regional Poker Meetup" in the Washington, D.C. region this summer? There appears to be sufficient interest from local CT members in DC, VA, MD, PA, DE and WV (although, obviously, out-of-towners are invited). Important details are in yellow.
Proposed Date (pending discussion about a 1- or 2-day event)
Saturday, July 23, 2011
Proposed Location (5/23/11 update)
Krafticus has offered to host this event in Ellicott City, MD. Progress was not made with securing a rental hall in northern Virginia.
Tentative Attendee List (assuming July 23) (updated at 10:00am on 5/23/11) - 18 CT members
BigBrando, brains613, Krafticus, pltyrgyst, MikesDad, steve5k, wafflestomper, Seitz333, Cristian301, Clifforis, Riculus, schullerjason, amstelnut, jadillon, PhilLaFond, DoLittle, mac40k, gcrissman
Cost/Buy-In
T.B.D. Just to be clear, this is a non-profit, non-professional event and will be completely legal in the jurisdiction in which the event is held.
Event Name
I'm thinking this event name could include "DC Metro," "Capital," "Beltway," or "District." Brains613 suggested "Mid-Atlantic Area Meetup." Thoughts?
Custom Chips
I'll need to verify with PCOL and ABC Gifts, but I suspect that the proposed dates will give them sufficient time for an order. We'll need to determine if a prize set will need to be ordered, or merely singles. I can coordinate payment and will put together an artwork design.
Games and Equipment
Assume at least one tournament, with unraked cash games on the side. There appears to be sufficient tables/chairs/chips/cards for this event, so individuals who have offered these items will be contacted if necessary. Thanks.
Age and Membership Restriction
Attendees must be over the age of 21. Moreover, this event is limited to ChipTalk members only.
Recommended Hotel (for out-of-towners)
Holiday Inn Express, 6064 Marshalee Drive, Elkridge, MD 21075-5935; (410) 579-8888
Off-Line Details
Specifics about this event will be handled off-line. At this point, please contact me at DCchips at gmail dot com if you'd like to be included in those discussions.

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
The date doesn't matter to me. I was just thinking about something like this. I'm in, but really don't have the ability to provide help. I have three tables of varying sizes, but no real way to transport them to a venue.

I'm in.
July 16 is my wife's birthday, so that is out.

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
Great idea! Any of those dates is fine with me, and the one you left out -- July 30 -- would be even better, since my wife will be in Colorado for a "skiing" weekend.
There's a whole CT crew out around Leesburg. Fish72 is local, plus we'd pick up a couple of local BARGErs/ATLARGErs from my game if that's acceptable.
Somehow, I don't think chips will be a problem. And I have 16 chairs, one table (and can probably find one more), plus a cargo van to haul them.
What is the general location of the room you have in mind?

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
I'd be much more likely to fly in for a weekend of poker than for just one afternoon/evening. As of today, any of the weekends in your poll would work.

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
Really funny, pltrgyst. I actually came here out of your "you know the chips are winning" thread, which I had never seen before, to say; "PLTRGYST has enough chips!!! And he's retired, so setting up will give him something to do!"
Also, Abby's suggestion is cool. Could we organize games for both days on whatever weekend is picked? Maybe a mix of tourney and cash, plus Omaha and dealers choice games. (Although admittedly, I only know how to play NLHE, PLO, and crazy pineapple.) Here's another idea, I was thinking about organizing a shoot-out style tourney, as well as a heads-up tourney for my group. Maybe we could incorporate one of those.
I have one ellipse table ( , and two octagons (better suited for six players). I also have 12 cushioned, stacking chairs. I all seriousness, if this gets off the ground, I'd consider renting a pickup to transport them to the spot. Hell, I might even BUILD a two more ellipses.

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
Weekends are fine - I wasn't sure how popular they would be. I'll update the OP to include that as an option.
The location I have in mind is in Fairfax County - which is close to both Leesburg and Washington Dulles IAD airport. Approximately 20 miles away from the District of Columbia.
Provided (1) they are your guests and (2) the attendee list isn't already too large, I think non-CT members are welcome.

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
I've always wondered if something like this would ever happen in DC. I'd definitely be interested and could get a few people to come along (non-CTers) if we need some extras.
I don't know which weekends are good or bad yet, but I doubt it would matter too much for me. My brother lives in Reston so nothing is too far from there for me...

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
both weekends in July work for me... but since Krafticus and I (and perhaps Clifforis) would drive together, I vote for not the 16th

Re: Washington, D.C. Area Poker Meetup
I'd be in too for either July date. This sounds exciting! Let me know what you still need and I'll see what I can do.
