No, there's no need to make name tags a requirement for Meetups.

Should name tags be required for all Official ChipTalk Meetups?
I'd really like to move the Name Tags from "suggestions" to "required" in the Meetup Policy. Discuss and vote please.
They can be as simple as as sticker labels and a marker as far as the requirement is concerned. I'd just like to make sure that all events have name tags since most of us know not what each other look like. :)

A big 'yes'. The one meet-up that I attended without nametags is still a blur and I don't identify with the majority of those CT members the way I do those who I can easily associate a 'real' identity with. Hope that makes sense.

Anyone else weirded out by meeting people from places like this? When I went to SCSD2 everyone was super nice, but it's just weird talking to chip geeks...Guinness can attest to me slinking away from people. Reminded me of the breakfast club, it was demented and sad, but social...lol. I had to play poker machines, rather sleep than play the tourney, couldn't really talk about chips out loud...seemed freaking bizzarre. Talk baseball, football or something and I'm cool. Name tags, definitely a must, I can't remember my kids names half the time.

Re: Should name tags be required for all Official ChipTalk Meetups?
I hate nametags but then again I've never met up with 40+ CT'rs at once...just like one dozen max. I'm assuming this inquiry is for big outings only. For our New England "meatup" on April 18th I reckon no tags even though there should be at least a dozen CTrs but we all know each other. Plus I wonder what the chances are that 40+ CT'rs will get together again. If its like 15 or less I personally don't need tags.
Edit: I just read the official meetup policy....didn't know there was one. Still not sure if required is needed, although if you meet in Vegas wearing a tag you can look like a convention tourist and possibly make out at the tables if you're good.
Evil definitely had issues...I'll never forget like 5 of us waiting to eat breakfast at the Bellagio...we're waiting for others and Evil disappears...we look over and like 5 feet away he's playing video poker instead of talking...freak!

Name tags are cool. You younger guys will prolly understand when you hit the forty's. They don't have to be supersized!.
But I have a simple rule as many do, drink a beer with me and I never forget your name. What's his name taught me that!

Josh's "Things I don't understand" list (not inclusive):
1) Why you would ever have a CT meet-up without nametags.
2) Why CT meetups need "requirements" instead of just recommendations.

Why would you not have them at an event where there may be a large population of folks that don't know each other? I'm not sure it needs to be mandatory, per se, but it certainly seems like common sense.

Even more so because we DO know each other but not by name/face.
