Gauging interest - poker cruise meet-up in 2008 anyone?

This thread is meant to measure interest in taking a poker cruise in 2008 with a bunch of other CTers.

I recently posted a review of my own experience on a recent Players Cruise - http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/card-r...tml#post644455. I posted a couple of updates to it too that aren't yet showing up in thread.

Namely:
There were a couple of WSOP qualifying SNG tourney with a $220 buy-in. The winner wins a cruise for two and a seat in a future 18-player tourney with the winner of that one getting a free seat in the 2008 WSOP. Players Cruise is offering the same tourneys next year.

The Players Cruise folks offered to spread other games, but interest just wasn't there. $5/10 NLHE, $2/4 Limit Hold 'em and H.O.R.S.E. to name a few.

The cruise was a good way to spend time if you love non-stop poker. It was also cool even if you don't want to play non-stop since there's a lot of other stuff to do. Finally, it's really good for spouses and significant others who might not be so interested in poker.

You'll note in the review that I wasn't too fond of Carnival Cruise line. Apparently other folks are also complaining and 1/2 of the 2008 cruises are being offered on Royal Caribbean so that would definitely be my preference for a future cruise.

There are four 2008 Players Cruise dates set so far and 2 are Royal Carribean. A 5-day cruise in January (1/28 - 2/2) out of Fort Lauderdale with prices ranging from $349-547 and a 7-day cruise in October (10/26 - 11/2) out of Fort Lauderdale with prices ranging from $599-839.

What do you guys think? Interested? In either date or would just one work for you? Please respond to the poll and discuss here. I'll answer any questions that I can.

Sorry Andi,
It's not in the cards for me My wife is not a poker player, and taking a cruise without her would not work. If I take a poker cruise with her, I'd want to be at the poker table 24/7 which would make for a pretty boring time for her.

I voted. One thing I was wondering about from your trip report was that anyone could play. Everywhere on their website it states that you must book through them to access the poker room.

Excellent point and I'm glad that your raised it. I was really surprised that the room was opened up to the public and at first wasn't to sure that I liked the idea. It turned out to be great for my game though and for others too I'm sure. Having all those not-so-serious players at the tables made for some great action. I'm unclear on whether all the future cruises are going to be open to the public or not at this time though. I won't mind at all if they are.

I understand completely.

I neglected to mention though that being in the poker room 24/7 is impossible as it's closed both when the ship is at port (so all day basically on excursion days) and also when the ship is not in international waters.

Early indications suggest that the poker cruise idea holds little interest as a possible CT meet-up forum. We've had 69 thread views and only four respondents including myself. Two of those being negative.

Just an update. Their dates have changed and there are only two cruises going in 2008. I'm 80% sure I will go on the Sept.20-25 cruise.

Yep, it appears this might be the last of the poker cruises offered by Player's Cruise. Reports are that they had problems with RCL and Carnival didn't renew their contract.
