Waaay overdue introduction

Hello Chiptalk!

I joined this site over a year ago as a way to check out some of the options I had for new chips I wanted to buy; I stayed for the picture galleries. Recently I have realized that I check this place every day (often several times) and feel I should probably introduce myself.

Bio/Chip History

My grand father, and one of the greatest influences in a lot of my life, was a big time gambler throughout his whole life. I was the first kid in my class who could do addition to 21 when I was a toddler because my grandpa taught me by teaching me blackjack. We would also play a lot of 5 card poker for pennies whenever he came to visit. Like most people my age, I became interested in poker in 2003 after the WSOP boom. My first experiences with Texas Hold 'em was playing for quarters before school. For my 15th birthday, my parents bought me a cheap set of 11.5g suited poker chips. these suited my needs throughout HS. For my 18th birthday, I asked for cash and used it to purchase my next set, 14g laser graph (Las Vegas sign). These chips were a hit throughout college, and I hosted 99% of all the games we played (usually 2-3 tournaments a week). During the time, I really thought these were nice chips; then I discovered Chiptalk.

I attended Virginia Commonwealth University for 4 years, and recently graduated this May. When my dad asked me, "what do you want for your graduation present?", my response was poker chips! Along with my new chips, he also took me, my brother, and a friend to Vegas for 3 days. Along with that trip, Him, my two brothers, and I have a Vegas trip tradition every December ever since I turned 21.

Gambling is probably my favorite hobby, both for money and just for fun. My friends all know to come to me when they wanna learn a new poker game or mess around with another game besides poker. When I do make purchases, I like to go big; I prefer quantity over quality, as long as the quality is decent enough. Below is a list of all the stuff I own:

My gambling specs

Poker

600 chip Pharaoh Club tournament set from thechiproom(my favorite)
400 chip Pioneer Club comm. tournament set from thechiproom
400 chip Desert Palms tournament set from thechiproom
750 chip Dunes comm./Desert Palms mix cash set from thechiproom(mostly Dunes)
300 chip Nile Club ceramics mini tournament set
300 chip Nile Club ceramics mini 25/50 cash game set
11 decks Modiano playing cards
6 decks Copaq playing cards (my favorites)
2 decks KEM playing cards
24 decks canceled Vegas playing cards
3 Sunfly ceramic deal buttons and like 20 other poker buttons
1000 chip cheap plastic WSOP final table set (750 5k, 250 25k chips)
300 chip cheap plastic 2005/06 Topps basketball chip set

Craps

36x72 craps mat
1000 chip cheap plastic set (Las Vegas chips mentioned above)
On/off puck, and several buttons like buy/lay
7 different color sticks of 19mm dice

Roulette

36x72 roulette mat and a pro ball marker
18'' Bakelite roulette wheel
400 roulette chips (9.5g Super Diamonds in 5 colors)

The future

I am currently considering chips to do an entire custom casino theme based off of my family name. I hope to have the project in full swing by 2012. These chips would be higher end clay composite (looking at Great Wall/lkey from oldwestpokersupplies.comas the main chips) with stickers. I am looking to put together 4 sets; NCV tournament set, Casino house set, poker room set, and roulette set (super diamonds with stickers for roulette). All would feature the same theme with slightly altered wording.

Thanks for reading my unnecessarily post!
-Ben

Welcome!

Be sure to get some Paulson chips the next time you're in Vegas.

Paulson chips are the "Mercedes" of poker chips around here.

The moment I got my hands on a stack of Paulson chips and shuffled them, I fell in love with them.

I actually collect $1 and $2.50 chips from Casinos I play at. I have about 15 total. I also have a few collector chips from various casinos and 20 Aztar chips for shuffling. I love Paulson chips, but I'd prefer to have an insane amount of cheaper chips than a small paulson set.

Stay with Chiptalk long enough and you'll probably end up with an insane amount of Paulsons... Welcome aboard and hide your wallet immediately!
