Pallette Knife Painting

I attended an Art Club Meeting/Demonstration/Luncheon on Thursday and painted this in about two hours. It's my first attempt, so it's not great - obviously I need a lot more practice!! All done with a pallette knife - no
brushes. A ton of oil paint on this canvas! It was a lot of fun.......

Multi-talented or multi-tasking? Very, very nice...and the oil paint vendors love you, as do we!

Very nice work, It's reminds me of Christopher Cross's song "Sailing" You would make Bob Ross very proud.

For me when I use a knife for oil paints I usually do quick strokes with it. I mainly use it for detail.

imperial....I didn't know you painted. I had a problem with getting my strokes going in the right direction on this. Don't know why. I need to practice, practice.....or give it up. Still....I enjoyed doing something different.

Very nice painting. I dig the touch of red in the cliffs on the left. Can I ask what brand of paint you use?

Probably you already know about these. If not, you will get a kick out of them, I know I did:
Plains Art Museum
It's the only art museum I've ever heard of that has a rack!

Ann - it's good to see you branching out. I am by no means a very good painter. I am a colored pencil/ink, chalk kinda guy but your pics make me want to pick up a brush and try it out again. Very nice for your first shot.

Josh, I use several different brands - Grumbacher, Winton, Van Gogh and Utrecht. I really don't have a favorite, as yet.

I did not know of the Plains Art Museum chips! Interesting.....thanks for the link! I need to get some of those.....

Ann,

I hope this is a joke! Please for the love of all that is good in the world, don't give it up!

I really like this one. It has more of an organic feel to it. Each time I look, I see something a little different. Sure, it's a beautiful sailboat and some great cliffs, but one time I look and it's sweet and peaceful. Another time I look and it looks a little more rough, like a very windy day. There's so much more happening here.

That's the fun part about art, each person will have his or her own interpretation of the piece. It's much more difficult to have a photograph be open to a variety of interpretations as the photo tells what it is and little more. I love photography, but painting is so much more creative. Your gallery (thanks for opening it Ten) makes me want to take up painting. I fear I don't have the patience .

Keep posting the goodness and thanks for sharing!

P.S. Needless to say, the photo without the flash is much better!

AlbinoDragon......your post is quite interesting! I like the way that you see and feel something different each time you look at this little painting. I was just now thinking about how when I painted this in the workshop the other day - there were about 30-40 people there and we were all painting the same subject. You would not believe that to be the case, however. Each person had their own interpretation of what they were seeing. The lighting, the color blends, shadows - everything was so different in all 30-40 paintings. There were no two alike in the entire room. It was amazing to me!

You're right - the photo w/o the flash is much better, but seems to mute some of the brightness of the colors.....I'm told that I need to take the photos outdoors.
