That seems like a very odd weight. I'm assuming it has a metal insert (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Can anyone else explain why they are that weight?

Because they're crap.

Playing with my Nexgens, I thought they had the perfect weight, but this is the problem with all plastic chips - they're too heavy. Ceramics & Clays are not as heavy, therefore easier to do tricks with, shuffle, etc. Plus, I find that when big names get invloved in chipsets (Hellmuth, WSOP, WPT to a lesser extent) they don't always go for quality chips like you'd expect, it's usually whoever gives them the biggest percentage of sales. If you're looking at buying them for tournaments, or as a stop-gap to better chips, go ahead - your buddies will dig them!
