I agree with that statement. They stack a little better than the Matsui's, but they definitely feel harder. There must be more to the scirnce of poker chips than just the material they are made of, like shape to create suction.

Agreed. The BJs have tons of suction (which has its problems). I suppose the shape, slickness & sharp edges can account for this. These traits do allow superior stacking.

How are you determing the hardness of a chip? Using a scratch test from fingernail? That's hardly even close to be scientific to determining a chips' hardness.

I'm using drop test (ie: sound measurement) to determine the hardness of a material. You're scratching with fingernails. To determine the true hardness of something you have to do test such as:

http://www.gordonengland.co.uk/hardness/vickers.htm

We can go back and forth on this subject, but all your "real world" perception of BJ chips being harder are all speculations. At least I tried to determine the true hardness of something through somewhat scientific means.

The "science" of the shape to create suction? We're talking about coin-inlay chips here. There are no "suction" associated with these chips.

It's completely UNscientific, but I always thought BJ plastic was harder than the Matsui.

You do know that there are so many variants of BJ chips out there ranging from the wheel checks to the V7 that's common in most casinos. And all of the Matsui chips we've seen were either home chips or samples. None were ever used in casinos.

Without any actual real tests, everything is pure speculation and assumption. I don't pretend that the tests I've done are anything scientific, at least it's a step I've taken beyond everyone else that have commented on this subject.

As to why BJ decal chips have a "suction" feel to them, one reason is that the decal is sunken a bit lower than the rim than the Matsui decal chips therefore a bigger pocket of vacuum can be created when stacking one BJ chip on another. These only apply mostly to certain BJ chips. Also, well used BJ chips don't have the same tendency as newer BJ chips.
