Chips: 36,203 | | | The Market Place Rules - Updated 8/18/05 This forum is meant to to a place for members to share information with other members. It cannot be used as a spam haven, podium for sales pitches, or repository for auction links. - Offers to sell items are ok, as long as they are member-to-member transactions. It is common to offer a good deal to the other members prior to postng the item(s) for sale elsewhere.
- It's ok to link to a commercial product or sale that you feel members would benefit by knowing about, as long as you are not making money off of the link, auction, or sale of the item.
- Only poker related items are allowed.
- Links to a site or auctions that you are in any way affiliated with is not allowed. This is not a place to "increase sales" or "drive up bids" on items that are offered for sale to the public.
If you want to post links to your auction, or ANY auction use the AUCTION LINKS forum. For now I am letting ANY member post auction links. Consider that forum in beta testing. |

By offering a discount or deal implies you are benfiting in some way and posts of this nature should be cleared prior to posting. Feel free to PM me any spefic questions you may have regarding the (your?) site. Affiliate type offers are not appropriate at this time.

Chips: 684 | | | Can I add a suggestion for this forum? I think that when someone has something that they're offering for sale, they should list an asking price in the post. Otherwise, they're essentially using the forum as their own (free) auction site. With the asking price listed, potential customers would already know it, thus preventing the deluge of "how much ya want for the ... ?" messages that normally follow. |

I try to have as few rules as possible and let the board police itself. If that becomes a problem for enough people, they will let the poster know...

Chips: 684 | | 'Nother suggestion. If someone posts something for sale and you think the terms are unacceptable, do one of the following:
A) If you're interested in the item(s), politely submit a reasonable counter-offer.
B) If you're not interested, leave the thread without posting belittling comments about the seller, the item, the price, the potential buyer, etc.
Why the suggestion? This thead: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3256. |

Chips: 1,827 | | | While I do feel that the name calling and belittling should stop, I don't think that we should have to edit or have any rules in place for opinions or comments about m2m sales even if we are not interested.
Message boards are all about the comments and opinions of people who share the same common interest. When we place a message in this board, we should expect some type of response, let it be good or bad.
For example, what if a new member joined chiptalk with the intent to sell his set of 500 Trademark Paulsons for $1000 (slight exaggeration, but someone tried this on ebay)? Or, what if someone got ripped off by a member selling in m2m sales? It would be in our best interest to comment on his post in hopes of protecting the newbies and others in this forum.
As a poster in an m2m forum, we have 3 ways we can deal with negative comments on our sale:
1) ignore the comments
2) politely say "sorry, the price is firm" or "please PM me any counter offers"
3) list somewhere else (ebay, etc...)
In no way did I feel that kybill's offer was way off base or warranted the name calling that he received. |

Chips: 255 | | | I think potential buyers have the right to let their thoughts be known in a respectful manner. The poster who suggested the price was a bit high for those chips did so in a respectful manner and IMO kybill over-reacted and thats when the name calling started. Name-callling should not be tolerated but if you think something is over-priced, you can certainly say so in a civil manner. I think if you post something for sale in the M2M area, you should expect some comment, whether it be postive or negative. On the converse, when the guy was selling those Bud Jones Dakota chips for dirt cheap, I didn't see people name-calling him for selling them at a steal! We're all looking to save a buck or two so when we see things being posted in the M2M section and it's close to retail or above, we're going to let it be known. Or just move on and don't buy it. It's that simple. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
