What buyers and sellers need to know about PayPal

This needs to be said for future sales in this section. Mods, you can do what you like with it after I say my peace. Maybe a sticky? Maybe not?

Today most transactions are done via PayPal but this only assures protection of both parties in the US, Canada and the UK. Anyone in the world can have a PayPal account but outside of these countries both parties can't be protected. PayPal is working on this but who knows how long this will take.

Anyhow the bottom line for sellers in order to be protected the transaction details must state eligible for protection if the address is unconfirmed. A tracking number plus delivery confirmation at under $250 and a signature of $250+. If nothing states seller protection then the address must be confirmed and just a tracking number for delivery and a signature required at $250+ to be protected.

The way things are today in this world I'm not going to budge from this and neither should any of you regardless how much the transaction is. Of course if you know the person, then there probably won't be any trouble. I hope this information will make for smoother future transactions and for a safer way of conducting business in the M2M section.

Thanks for reading

Re: What buyers and sellers need to know about PayPal

Paypal Isnt much better then sending a MO via USPS insured anyways. Paypal has ripped me off a few times on not believeing some of my claims.

You should not buy anything online Especially with paypal, unless your willing to handle a loss of funds that you give out. Paypal is a Decent service, But its not fool proof. Paying with a credit card and useing Paypals "protection" fees is always a better help.

I've had paypal for 6 years, and have only ran into about 4 Very bad transactions.

Always use the credit card to pay paypal.
They keep trying to take it directly out of my bank account by changing my defult but that way you have no protection.
Paypal is no better than ebay for protection.

That might be but if you have a tracking number and they see it was shipped then you're covered. If $250+ then you have a signature on delivery and if you prove that, you are also covered. That is if you did ship to a confirmed address or you were eligible for protection then you are covered. If you failed to follow the rules you could be SOL.

Paypal *is* eBay.

Paypal charges the receiver the fees, in part, to offset the fees it costs to place the transaction with your credit card. If they can get you to pay using your bank account (no fees for them) and then still charge the fees to the receiver, they make extra cash.

That's why they alwasy push for bank transfers when sending money to a premium account (only the premium accounts get charged the fees -- the basic accounts can not receive money from credit cards).

To be fair to paypal, my wife bought some ebay auction and the woman flat out refused to send it. She emailed the lady and got excuses for a month, then the lady just stopped responding. I filed a complaint with Paypal and they opened a dispute... the lady never responded and Paypal creditted my wife back the $14.03.

One other time, I sold something on eBay (an out of print role playing game) for about $200. When the guy got, he complained that it was no brand new and he shouldn't have to pay the full $200 and that it was worth more like $125 in its current condition. Paypal opened a dispute, subtracted the money from my account, and took arguments from both sides. After a period of time, they reviewed the "evidence" and ruled in my favor, creditting me back the full amount.

In two disputes through Paypal, they were fair, the procedings were not terribly drawn out, and I think they reached the right decision both times.
