Chips: 2,408 | | | Selling chips for legal fees Hello all. All of the proceeds of this sale goes toward legal fees for Phil.
He is the person who started a poker club in Rochester, NY. He really
stuck his neck out to provide a safe, fun, legal enviroment to play cards.
He got the shaft here and any help is appreciated.
We have one offer of 50 cents per chip for the whole lot. This person has
agreed to give us some time to see if we can raise some interest in the chips.
We need to sell them all so if people are interested in 1000 min. set we need to
make sure there are enough buyers. We'd like to get .75 cents per chip but will
discount for volume purchases.
Breakdown of chips:
White: 12,774
Red: 8,018
Green: 2,150
Black: 386
Please email or PM any questions.
You can read all about it here: Large quantity of Chipco chips forsale

Chips: 2,408 | | | Re: Selling chips for legal fees In short, no jail time. A lot of lawyer fees. The point is that this wasn't an underground club. He followed the rules, got a special permit and then they decided to go after him once they saw how well things were going. I suspect it was the regional casinos that put on the heat. Just my opinion of course.
Here's the text from forsale page:
-----------
The idea behind The Poker Club, LLC was simple. To provide a safe and comfortable environment where people could come and enjoy a number of activities including a game of poker. The club was operated like any country club around the country; pay a membership fee to be a member of the club. The fee was the same for everyone regardless of what you did while at the club. Profit was being generated from membership fees, NOT from the poker games.
Before it’s opening in July of 2004, I went before the town board of East Rochester, New York to get a special use permit to operate the establishment. At that meeting, it was explained exactly how my club would operate and what activities (specifically poker) would be offered. The town board unanimously voted and approved the special use permit. The Poker Club, LLC was first opened on November 19, 2004. The club was voluntarily closed down at the beginning of December 2004 until the beginning of January 2005. In February 2005, I again went before the town board, and again the board unanimously voted and approved the special use permit. The club was officially opened again in February 2005 until April 7, 2005. On that date the Greater Rochester Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (GRANET) came in and raided the club. I was handcuffed and the people in the club were searched, identified, and then had to leave. The people had to leave their chips at the tables and all money was forfeited to the authorities.
Since then the club has been closed down. My court experience proved to me that the justice system is completely unfair and unjust. Every motion my attorney made was denied, while all the motions made by the District Attorney were approved. The day before my initial trial in September 2005, my attorney was relieved from the case by the judge. My trial was rescheduled for December 13, 2005. I had to appear before the judge in November 2005 to announce who my new attorney would be. My attorney said that it was a violation of my constitutional rights and that the judge could not deny my right to have counsel of my choice. I went before the judge in November to declare that I wanted to retain my current attorney. On November 28, 2005 the judge again denied the motion to have my attorney represent me. Furthermore, he said that the trial would not be adjourned and that I needed to find an attorney for the trial or defend myself. The trial was in 2 weeks. I called many attorneys all of whom said that they would need more time to prepare. A few of these attorneys called the judge to explain that they would need more time to prepare and the judge told them that he would not adjourn the trial. Finally, with a week left, I found an attorney that was willing to take the case. With only a week to prepare, my new attorney did the best he could. At the trial, I was found guilty of promoting gambling in the second degree. Currently we are in the process of appealing the decision.
All proceeds from the sale of equipment and chips from the club are being used for my appeal and legal defense.
Thank you for your support,
Philip Corleto- Owner
