Chips: 229 | | | Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale I have a set of 397 of the Paulson Marvel Spiderman , Hulk, and Wolverine chips from Dufferin Games that I am willing to sell for $10 each.
These chips have sold here individually for $11 each and recently on eBay for a bit more.
The wrinkle is that I will include the original Marvel licensed packaging. (Not the aluminum case) in the above photo - see below)
As I mentioned in the earlier thread on these chips in the Want-to-Buy forum, the boxes are thin brittle plastic and all are damaged with cracks and chips but they are still pretty cool to have. Each box holds 80 chips but one of the five would only have 77 in it.
These chips originally came in sets but in some cases the sets were broken up and sold individually in the Dufferin Games stores for $6.95 (Can).
If somebody or a group would like to buy them, please let me know by 5p.m. Eastern on November 14.
As an aside, I buy stuff on eBay under the same name"northernferg" so you can see my feedback there. I have not sold there before. Shipping cost would depend on how we agree to ship/insure.
Thanks for looking. |

Chips: 414 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale If you are willing to split these up into sets of 3 and sell them like that I would be in for 2 sets. I think that there were enough people from the previous threads that would be in for this. You should move all of these out that way.
Please let PM me if this turns out to be an option! |

Chips: 229 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale One of the reasons I'd prefer to move them as a block is the crazy shipping and insurance cost to ship a small set from Canada to the USA.
I've already taken one packaged set of three to the post office and shipping including signature confirmation and insurance was $12.70 (Can), which adds a lot to the cost of a set of three (approx $3.50 U.S. each) so it seems to make sense on a per chip cost basis to move them across the border in one set.
Before I would consider breaking the set up I'll let this run its course since I've made the offer. If a group of people want to buy the chips it seems more economical to get them shipped across the border in a larger lot. I don't think very many people are aware of what the shipping cost for a small set adds to the total cost per chip.
Thanks for the interest. If nobody takes the set I'll only think about breaking it up if it seems there is enough interest here in portions of it to make it worthwhile. I've had it for years and I don't want to end up with part of the set - kicking myself for letting the rest go. If it does come to breaking it up into small sets I'd be looking for $11 per chip, which is what they've been going for.
Best regards,

northernferg | plus, if you keep it all as one big set, that will make the ones that i own continue to be worth something...

Chips: 1,455 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale i think if you're going to sell them in a bulk amount you should drop the price a lil....
i mean, usually in the market, whenver you purchase items individually they are higher than if you were to buy the whole lot or a bulk amount...
at $3,970.- for a 397 piece set, i dont foresee you getting all of them sold...
just my nickel, and i'd love to have a small collection of these but at $10.- a pop, i'd of had to win a wsop event to justify the purchase... |

Chips: 229 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale I just realized I should make it clear that the set does not break down equally three ways. That is, the original sets sold by Dufferin comprised 40 Spideys and 20 each of the Hulk and Wolverine, so this set has 199 Spidermen, 99 Hulks and 99 Wolverines. That means that there are only 99 possible sets of three with a rack of 100 Spideys left.
Just wanted to be clear lest somebody misunderstood.

Chips: 229 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale As I mentioned above, at this time - having made the offer for the whole set - I'm not considering breaking it up until after next Monday. I don't think it's fair to make an offer and then back out of it.
After that time I'll gauge the interest expressed here to see if it's a good idea to break it up into smaller sets, but the price per chip would be $11 each, which is what they have been going for here (a few weeks ago a member bought a set of 48 of them at that price per chip and others were clearly interested) and less than the price in the most recent eBay sale (which was $34.99 for a set of three). This is a slightly lower price to sell them in bulk.
Sorry if my last post caused any confusion. I only wanted people to understand that the set was not made up of equal numbers of each of the chips and that if they were planning on breaking it up they would be left with a lot of Spideys, which is what would happen to me if I were to go that route.
Thanks

Chips: 229 | | | Re: Marvel Paulsons Spiderman/Hulk/Wolverine for sale The retail price for individual chips was $6.95 and they sold in sets of 80 for $159.99 plus tax of $24.00 = $183.99 (plus shipping if, as I did for most of them, you had to get them shipped).
There was an earlier thread in the want-to-buy forum in which people posted what they knew of these chips. Here is a cut-and-paste of part of what I added :
" I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and had the chance to buy some of these chips before they disappeared. They were only made in a very limited number - 200 sets of 80 chips each. Each set contained 40 Spider Man chips, 20 Hulks and twenty Wolverines. The sets were sold in plastic boxes with Marvel graphics printed on them but the plastic was very thin and brittle and every box I saw in the stores was cracked - usually in a number of places.
Each set had a retail price of $159.99 and some stores broke up some of the sets and sold them individually in clear vinyl pouches for $6.95 each.
Dufferin Games Ltd. had a worldwide licensing agreement with Marvel Enterprises, Inc. that was announced on July 19, 2001. They were one of the few places in Canada that sold any kind of good quality poker chips at the time and the only one I have ever heard of that sold any Paulson chips - and then only these Marvel ones. They started selling the chips in 2002. They were snapped up by people willing to pay to get real Paulsons to make sets for home games.
Not long after they entered the agreement with Marvel and produced the set of chips, the Dufferin Games chain of 21 stores went bankrupt and was closed, meaning that no more chips were produced. That means that there are only 8000 of the Spider Man chips and 4000 each of the Hulks and Wolverines in existence worldwide, which is why you see them so rarely. I think most of them went into sets for home games, which means that we are not likely to see them for sale very often. I think the last time I saw these on eBay a long time ago a seller was selling them for about $9 each.
They really are beautiful chips and it is amazing that Paulson produced such a limited run, but maybe they were hoping to land a much bigger re-order from Dufferin and Marvel when they sold out of them.
I only just joined and don't yet know how to add photos but if people are interested I could post some photos showing the chips and the original boxes once I figure out how to. I also have printouts of a press release outlining the deal between Dufferin and Marvel in 2001 and a press release from Dufferin games dated September 9th, 2002 that promotes their "Annual Top Ten Gift Suggestions for 2002", which included the $159.99 sets of chips."
Since then the only sales I have seen of these, whether in a group or individually, have been for $11 or more.
There is other information in the earlier thread: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10056
I hope this helps.
