Chips: 36,209 | | | ChipTalk's "Bare Bones Home Poker Rule Sheet" I'm thinking of creating a condensed set of rules that people can use for home games, at least to have on hand to settle discputes. Robert's Rules are great, but a bit unwieldy to say the least.
I can do it myself, or someone can do it for chips. Or both... I wanted to post this to give you my future intentions and also as a reminder to myself to do it.
-------------
Here are a few examples (both from me and from this thread). The actual article would be nicely formatted, and would include a brief "explanation" next to each item. - No splashing the pot.
- Cards speak for themselves (big dispute at home games on this one)
- All cards above the table (in both axis)
- One player to a hand
- No string bets
- No action out of turn
- Called hands show first, or first to check if no call
- Show one, show all
- Only the dealer may touch the pot
- Only best five cards per hand (how many times does a guy think he won a draw because his "sixth card" kicker beat the table straight?)
- No suit is higher than another
- Verbal declarations are binding
- minimum bet and raise

Chips: 1,845 | | | I kind of had this in the works, although I was working more toward an article or FAQ about the rules and why they're in place. I can tweak it around though. |

Chips: 385 | | | I have a list of rules that I use at my home games, but they aren't totally finished. They are basically all the most important stuff from Roberts Rules, and a few modifications from my own tastes and TDA's rules.
I could email them to you if you'd like. |

Chips: 11,933 | | Not to dredge up any bad blood, but homepokertourney.net has a printable rules book available for download at: http://www.homepokertourney.net/rules_booklet.htm - I haven't printed it out, or even taken a hard look at it, but have not had any major problems with any of the other info available from the site either.

I know that anything I can possibly want can be found somewhere on the internet (and I'm good at finding it). Nearly evertime I suggest a new feature I'm told we can find it somewhere else.
But my goal is for us to end up with a better version of EVERYTHING right here. I have some pretty lofty goals in mind but it takes expertise. This simple feature is easy for me or another member to do.
Necessity is the mother of invention, and I need a better version of many poker things/tools... including chips. |

Chips: 88 | | | Suggestion, why don't you post the draft copy and let the members make recommendations. I look at the home..... one and there were a couple of things in it I didn't like. |

I know you were just trying to give me what I was looking for, but that wasn't my goal. I was just making the point that although I know that there are other rules sheets out there, I want to make one for US, a better one I hope.
There's always "something" out there. Question is, can we do better? Heck, there were some pretty good poker forums already but I figured we could do better. Plenty of people said "why make a new forum, 2+2 is fine" (or similar), but I just thought "what the hell?" |

Chips: 7,798 | | | Since Spiff is already working on one, I won't. But I'd like to see this on the list:
Splashing the pot is not allowed. There is an exception for the host. In his house, he can splash the pot whenever the **** he pleases.
My players got a kick out of that (well, the ones that read my rules, anyways). |

I was not, and am not, trying to be a tool, but it has always been my philosophy if you are trying to build a better mousetrap, start with the one you already have: it is easier to improve and perfect rather than invent, especially when most of the legwork has already been done.
