Chips: 3,424 | | | Re: ChipTalk's "Bare Bones Home Poker Rule Sheet" Roberts Rules of Poker are used, and in any "house rule" situations, these are posted on the wall and I usually go over them for any new players who are not familiar with my game.
Some orig. some taken for others house rules as idea generators. Quad's House Rules: General House Rules:
1. Show up to play a strong, fun and enjoyable game.
2. Don't act like a dope, *******, rookie or Sally.
3. Please.... Remember poker etiquette
4. Verbally announce your raise.
4a. The One Chip rule will be enforced for all games.
5. String betting will get a warning, then a slap on the wrist with name calling, following offenses will be "donations to the pot" Continued offences, you will be asked to cash out and leave.
6. I often deal for the night if nobody objects, or someone else wants to deal, please volunteer.
6a. If you sit to either side of the dealer, learn to shuffle.
7. I'm not a convenience store, a Motel, nor an ATM. So, Bring Your Own Beer, Smokes, Water, Soda, Snack, Food, and Money.
8. If you do drink, please, absolutely under no circumstances, get looped and then get in a car. I'll call you a cab.
9. We play in the garage, I smoke in the garage and not in my house, (doors open for ventilation of course) and of course some tunes for background poker "ambiance".
10. Bring a chair unless you like sitting on concrete.
11. If the game is a $100.00 buy in and you bring a $100.00 bill, don't expect to cash out. Please bring smaller bills to accommodate an easy cash out.
12. All fist fights will be conducted in the front yard, after, and only after all side bets have been placed.
13. There is no rabbit hunting at this table. PERIOD.
13a. When you muck, you muck. No holding your cards to see what would have happened.
14. Smith and Wesson always beats 5 aces.
15. Take the time you need when needed. Please don't Hollywood every hand.
16. There are 3 things and only three things allowed on the table. Cash, Chips and Cards.
17. Please don't splash the pot.
18. If you show one player your hand prior to mucking, you show ALL players your hand.
19. In a showdown, a player must show all cards in the hand face-up on the table to win any part of the pot.
20. Please don't verbally speculate on another players hand when there is action on the table. One player to a hand.
21. If your hand is called, the player calling your hand has the option to see your hand if you throw it in the muck.
22. I run a straight up game. If you are caught cheating or colluding with (an)other player, you chips are dead (no cash out) and you will be walked out of the game. If you suspect someone cheating, please bring it up to me OFF the table and AWAY from the action. Sure-Fire ways to guarantee you won't be invited back: (this is a collective list)
1. Throw chips at people.
2. ***** about the game played.
3. Ask to change the game / stakes / rules (however, suggestions are welcome)
4. Hollywood every hand.
5. Verbally analyze every out of your hand before folding.
6. Leave your crap all over the garage floor, then leave. That big black thing outside is a "trash can". Please use it.
7. Put food or drink on the table.
8. Spill food or drink on the table.
8. Show up empty-handed and raid the fridge and or liquor cabinet
9. Badger someone into a political conversation, and then complain about getting ***** slapped.
Lastly:
If you get an invite, this is an invite for you and not all of your buddies. Granted, the more the merrier, but my table isn't a free for all. I host an invite only poker game / event. If you wish to bring a guest, clear it with me in advance. Show up and surprise me with a bunch of your buddies, and you're guaranteed to get dropped from the invite list |

Chips: 507 | | | Re: ChipTalk's "Bare Bones Home Poker Rule Sheet" Some fine looking lists here. I'll have to print one up for the next tourny as we have some frequent violators of some of these rules (and it is driving my crazy!). On a regular basis they will:
- splash the pot
- make string bets (although we stamped that out last week)
- go rabbit hunting
- disreguard the min bet/raise due to laziness (rather than toss in 3 greens -T75- they'll say "lets just make it 100" so they only have to use one chip)
- and the worst, dig through the muck to see what the OTHER players threw away (he will not be welcome at any future games)
BTW: What is the One Chip rule?

Chips: 177 | | Re: ChipTalk's "Bare Bones Home Poker Rule Sheet" I am glad that this thread is going and that people are thinking about written rules. I have be preaching written rules for years so that disputes and arguements are avoiding in a friendly game whether cash or tourney.
My 2 cents: Whether TEN wants a Chiptalk list, whether you strictly use Robert's Rules, or HPT's, what this basically comes down to is written rules are needed period. Also, and most importantly they will be customized from home game to home game. Most poeple know the basics but disagree on some. I.E. As mentioned above: A player's hole card gets flip up by the dealer. It's a misdeal. In my rules that's how it is to avoid any disputes. However, in most casinos, they continue dealing. That's cool but I don't do it that way because people still complain. So, I like to start with a fresh new deal. Everyone knows that's how it is and agreed to go by the rules before we start play. Just like you do in a casino or card room.
So, I say having a Chiptalk content is a good thing just like HPT and other sites. You should customize your rules and use these lists as your base and as issues come up adjust them when something is not covered. I'm interested in seeing the finial product here just to compare mine. |

I am hoping it is some form of rule to stop people counting out 100 $1 chips when they need $100 to call instead of using one of the $100 chips that they have.
This always winds me up. I mean, they are hoping to win the pot right? So they are hoping to get all these small chips back. So whats the point? It just wastes time. |

It just wastes time. | That's actually a pretty classic tell. Not 100% effective but it has been useful to me in the past. FWIW the "one chip rule" is if you throw in an oversize (denom wise) chip it's just a call unless you've verbally declared a raise. i.e. the action's to you and the bet is $3 but you throw in a $5 chip without saying anything, you've called and nothing more. |

Chips: 3,424 | | | Re: ChipTalk's "Bare Bones Home Poker Rule Sheet" Allow me to explain. I've gotten three or four requests / inquiries as to the "one chip rule" There are several one chip rules that I know of, this is the one that I use, and it seems to make the best sense and has worked well for the past 3 or 4 years.
The one chip rule:
If the bet in front of you is $25, and you drop an over sized chip on the felt without saying anything, you are calling the $25 bet.
If the bet in front of you is $25 and you say "raise" and drop an over sized chip on the felt, you are raising the bet, up to the chip value you dropped. If you dropped a $100 chip, you can raise up to $100.
If the action in front of you is $25 and you drop a $100 chip AND a $25 chip in front of you (two chips) and say nothing, you are raising to $125. As with any two chips, you are raising the amount (or up to) the amount of those two chips without verbal declaration of your action.
However.....
If there is no bet in front of you and you are opening the pot, and you drop a $100 chip on the felt, you are betting $100.
What is the best play?
VERBALLY state your action.
To anyone interested in these, feel free to use, rape pillage, borrow, steal, etc. any of these house rules for your game. This is a collection that i built over time from other house rules, games I've played, etc. if you can use them, and find benefit in them, by all means, take and run with any or all of them! |
