Need some clarification -- Bet Sizes

I read Robert's rules, and just wasn't 100% on the rule...

I played in a silly bar league game the other night, and had one ... moron (nicest word I can think of) ... who could never get the bet right (granted, he is always drunk, slow, and ignorant). When it was his turn to act, he had to be prompted to act, and would always need clarification on what the action was.

Anyway, so, it comes to him with the blinds at 300/600. he is first to act, and bets 200. Everyone says to him that the min bet is 600 .. so he pulls back his 200, curses at everyone and makes a fuss, and goes all-in for about 6-7k. I asked if that was legit, and some knowledgable folk (few and far between there) either said they didn't know .. or that they don't see why not. To me, it seems like a massive string bet.

I see this:
16. All wagers and calls of an improperly low amount must be brought up to proper size if the error is discovered before the betting round has been completed. This includes actions such as betting a lower amount than the minimum bring-in (other than going all-in) and betting the lower limit on an upper limit betting round. If a wager is supposed to be made in a rounded off amount, is not, and must be corrected, it shall be changed to the proper amount nearest in size. No one who has acted may change a call to a raise because the wager size has been changed.

It is a little vague, but it sounds like that with the under-bet, it must be brought to the minimum bet, and cannot be raised further. It says that it must be brought to the minimum IF the betting round has completed. In this example, it never went past him. This happened on 3 to 4 occaisions, and got to be quite annoying.

Needless to say, after playing there every Wednesday for about 1 1/2 years, with clowns like this showing up more and more, I think I am done with that. By the way, the buy-in is free, and winner take all for $25.. not much, but it gets me out of the house once a week to refresh my batteries, so to speak.

Just seeing what you guys and gals have to say .. and if this happens at your games. I would like to know the official way to handle it, just in case it happens at my house, or I get talked into going back.

Thanks

Mark

Re: Need some clarification -- Bet Sizes

He should have to bet 600, no more, unless verbally declaring otherwise.

Unless I have it wrong, and regardless what would happen when we play, would be he is forced to only call the BB - 600.

Re: Need some clarification -- Bet Sizes

This rule from Robert's section 14 on no-limit and pot-limit betting might help clarify things.

Quote:
11. If a player tries to bet or raise less than the legal minimum and has more chips, the wager must be increased to the proper size (but no greater). This does not apply to a player who has unintentionally put too much in to call.
In the free bar leagues I have played in there is some person who runs the tournament as TD/floor. They should be called to make a (hopefully correct) ruling.

yeah tycho bray has it. that's the relevant rule. the following is also relevant.

Re: Need some clarification -- Bet Sizes

It' should be 600 (big blind) I agree with everything said here. The TD should know these simple rules and be willing to enforce them.
