yeah, but the problem is that he and the folks next to him can see at least 2 cards that - after a cut - will be towards the middle of the deck and thus likely not to be in play....

Re: Shuffling Ettiquette???

I quickly got uninvited to a game after mentioning the same problem. But she was upside-down shuffling a deck of plastic cards, so they weren't even bent in the first place. I was fine with that as long as she'd turn them right side up and shuffle a few times, but never did, and nobody else cared. Always like you said. shuffled looking at the cards, flipped them over and got cut.

Their excuse is, that's what the cut is for.. some people are really silly.
And I tried to teach a bad shuffler how to learn as well, but he is a double hand rotate the cards in the air, spin, change position in his hands, turn, shuffle, bridge, and then gather them together again because some flipped out kind of shuffler. You know this type, you see more cards as he's shuffling than get shuffled. As he'd deal, I'd always mention the cards that would never be in play like "I'm hoping I don't have pocket kings because there was a king on the bottom of the deck".

It's tough, because it was harder for these people to learn how to BRIDGE the cards back when they were in 6th grade, and they don't want to go back to plain old shuffling.

Re: Shuffling Ettiquette???

If you have brought it to everybody's attention once, you have done your due diligence. If it continues, stare that deck down and use it to your advantage. Make sure you are sitting near enough that you can see well. The first time you clean their clocks, whether the dopey shuffles helped you or not, tell them it was all because of the way that guy shuffled. That might change the tune.

This is actually an interesting comment. The group I play with actually love the plastic cards. There will usually be a "these are slippery" comment if thye haven't used them before, but quickly get used to them (I guess you have to if that's the only thing available). What strikes me as a little odd as a few of the group despise the casino KEMs I picked up a couple months back. They much prefer the Copags.

The only thing I can think is the KEMs are bridge size and the Copags are poker size.

I'm fine with the preference in this case as they aren't running over to the drug store to get some Bicycles or Bees.

Shuffling wise, they're all pretty good. Perfect? No. Nobody is. At least they do some honest to goodness riffle shuffles and happily use the cut card. Burn and turn technique could use a little work, but that's minor.

Red face Re: Shuffling Ettiquette???

My home game problem is even tho we use two decks 80% of the time the players wait til the current hand is over before shuffling for thier deal. not to mention that i constantly have to remind them to shuffle on the table then just sit and take the blows of how much of a nit i am behaving like. Yet later on i get "you should improve your home game better, too much bs going on" = kinda gets old after 3months sadly i dont have any other low stake games to play unless i play 4 handed w/ my pot head group of friends.

I love using plasic cards at the casino yet everyone at my games hate on them. I personally find it amusing that two of the best players at my game hate on plasic, and constantly disregard home rules even tho they have been to Jackson at least twice as many times as myself.

Re: Shuffling Ettiquette???

Doesn't this just kill you? I go through the same thing. All the complaining about plastic cards, following rules and keeping the game going when these are folks who regularly visit casinos and public card rooms. They complain though that this is supposed to be a relaxing and fun social game and that card room rules and etiquette should not be enforced.
