So if you announce raise you can string bet as much as you want????

I agree, It is hard to enforce in a laid back type home game, but I still try my hardest. My basement is no casino, but to me its all about learning how to do things the right way and not getting into bad habits. If you develop a bad betting habit and end up at a less laid back game or in a casino you could put yourself in an akward situation where a lot of your money ends up in the pot unintentionally.

Re: String bet or not????

I've started being real strict about this. Not because people are trying to exploit this, but because there's always long discussions about it. So in my book the first 5 chips that touched the table would've been in (assuming they weren't dropped one by one) and the rest would be out.

At Stockholm Casino a friend of mine was "accused" of string-bet when he lined up 2 and 2 50 chips for 400 so only the first 100 counted. That is fine if all the dealers say that but this was the 4th time he did that. That's where the frustration comes in, so I've been real strict so players learn to do it properly and any bad habits are quickly removed.

Edit: I also got a cloth with bet-ring for my table.

Not really... If you annouce raise but not the amount and you start to put out chips below the min. raise, then your raise will be limited to a min raise.

As to the general question per the first post, it depends on whether the game is limit or NL. If it is limit, then it is acceptable at most places to grab a bunch of chips and drop the bet amount in one pile and then the raise amount beside it. I would have to said the action should be a continuous motion.

If it is a NL game then the chips are over the betting line and he will have to put in everything he had in his hand if it is over the require min raise, if the amount of chips in his hand is below the required amount for a raise then he can only call.

One motion with all the chips you want to push, or announce the size and make as many trips as you like.

I enjoy stacking and restacking inches in front of my cards, then pushing them all at once. One casino in AC made m put all the chips in front of my cards into the pot. I no longer stack and restack in front of my cards...

When playing limit, I noticed a couple guys bringing stacks big enough to raise, and only leaving a call behind sometimes, while raising other times. Since the raises were 'counted out' continuous with the call (ie.. 4-4-4-4 to raise from 8 to 16, they were allowed. Any pause after the call, without a verbal declaration was just a call, regardless of intent.

Is this a string bet or not?? One of the players says it is because there is reading ability there when doing that. I know his intention is to raise but what is the correct technical ruling? I basically told him to just announce raise....

Jaeden
To announce the raise is the best way, but if he doesn't bring his hand back I dont' think that's a string bet.

Re: String bet or not????

i was a poker dealer in a casino, and if they have a racetrack and "enforce the racetrack rule" then no its not a string bet because every chip he took over and if it is his turn to act then all the chips in his hand are consider live and in play. he could throw them in $1.00 at a time till they were gone.

if no race track its pretty much "house rules" depending on location.

my games and local Non for profit tournaments ..if you say raise then throw 5 in thats the Raise, no more, no matter if you take 100 chips out with a hand and shave 1 off. its a raise of $1.00 if thats a legal raise! another story another day.

i usally tell them to verbally announce raise then that vocal amount is BINDING!!

thanks for the scenario keeps me fresh.
