A pot bet is betting the size of the pot. Bets from players that have acted before you are now part of the pot.
pot has 10
player A B C D
A bets 5 B calls5 C says raise pot 40 to call for D
C puts in 5+total so far 5+15 = pot 20
plus raise of pot size
pot=20 + 20=40

A has 35 more to call ditto with B

Math is a little off.

Pot has $10
Player A bets $5 (pot is now $15)
Player B calls $5 (pot is now $20)
Player C says "raise the pot" (player C calls $5, pot is $25, and raises the pot => +$25 more) Total bet is $5+$25 = $30

Pot is now $50

Player D can call/fold to the $30 bet
Players A and B need to call $25 to stay in the pot.

Notice how A and B are getting 2:1 on their call (if everyone else folds)? That's how you know you did the math right
