Sounds like the guy did nothing "wrong." But as is said by a lot of these other guys.... this dude did go into the grey area. It sucks for the girl, but I guess that's what you get for being nice. By the way, we have a hard ending time and a one hour rule.

In our home game, we ask players to give 15-20 min courtesy notice before they intend to leave.
Or any player can set-up a departure time for himself/herself when the game begins, e.g. "I need to leave at midnight; otherwise, I'll turn into a pumpkin ".
