It is hard to break someone of bad etiquette. This is truely bad sportsmanship because the shoe was on the other foot just a minute ago. If this type of behavior is habitual I would put him low on the invite list. |

I call it poetic justice.
I only met one that wasn't a douce.
As for hit-and-run; it is bad form, but nothing was advertised in advance.

This was when we played a lot of dealer choice and not really knowing what we were doing). $5 buy-in, penny ante, essentially nickel/dime. About an hour in, he would call Anaconda hi-lo roll-em (ugh.. what an awful game). He would always pump the pot and very nearly always go low. After taking his half of the pot, he'd play another hand or two then cash out and leave.
After a couple months of this, everyone sort of caught on to what was going on. He's call Anaconda and we'd all groan. Whoever was on either side would always had off junk middle cards to him. Everyone else would wind up folding after the card swap when they realized that they couldn't make either the nut low or high. Before too long, he couldn't make his low hands (or his high hands) and nobody would play the game with him.
He started coming less and less frequently. We also started to transition to more traditional games and have picked up tournaments too. While he is still on the invite list, he hasn't shown in year.
Crazy hit and run for a $5 buy-in BYOB game. If anything, he'd come out up two bucks....
As a P.S., the usual games then were baseball, midnight baseball, iron cross, have a heart and occasional hold 'em. We played with a bunch of foreign (usually Mexican) coins that he picked up on various trips. Heavy, noisy and after ten minutes, your hands had that awful metallic smell. At the time, slugged ABS chips were the greatest thing since sliced bread!!!
I'm so glad those days are over! |

Hey fool, you had a chance the first time and lost. There is no rule stating that you get a second chance. If someone wants to pack up and leave, then it is their option. Granted, they would be off the invite list quickly.
Last month, I hit on a big hand at the casino, then left. However, I announced prior to the hand that I was leaving after it since the BB was approaching.

If you want to keep this guy playing, I would tell him that this type of behavior is considered rude. If he repeated, I wouldn't invite him again.
If you don't want to keep him around, then just don't invite him anymore.
I view this type of behavior as anti-social, but not against the rules per se. However, if it's your house, you can choose not to allow anyone who you choose to play. For any reason, or no reason. The casinos certainly reserve this right for themselves.

let's say i came to your game with this "tactic" in mind. first off, if i'm good enough to beat the game, then the longer i play the more i'd win. it wouldn't ever be in my interest to leave...unless i'm no longer a favorite. and if i hit and ran, it wouldn't matter b/c i'll just show up next week and most likely win some more.
if i'm a breakeven player, it doesn't work either. over any given period of time, i'd be equally likely to win or lose money, right? so if i leave small winner (let's say $10 over an hour), i'd still be just as likely to lose that back in the first 2 hours next week. why does it matter if i lose it now or next week?
if i'm a below average player, then you should be happy that i'm even there. i have to go home winner once in a while so that i can keep coming back and giving you guys all my money.
this anaconda story...wtf? is he unbeatable at this game? can't you guys also go low? why in the world would choosing that game be some sort of edge for him? btw, i love anaconda (philly and w16227 can attest to that), but i don't think that the dealer has any sort of edge. |

We do have cash games and I set a determined time for play, usually 4 or 6 hours, depending on which night it is. Everyone agrees to show up around the same time and quit when the game is called at the set hour so I don't encounter the type of problem you've had. I can't stop someone from leaving because of an unforseen event, but that has not happened yet. We play low stakes with a $20 buy in. If someone goes busto, of course they can leave at that point if they wish. Maybe you could set up a timeline for your game and if anyone wants to play later, then have those players commit to an extra hour, 90 minutes, or whatever. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
