Chips: 1,584 | | | Prop Bets Okay, I know there are other threads on Prop Bets, but I want some fresh ideas. I don't think I need to use the search feature because I was involved with the previous threads on props and those were the places where I got most of the side bets I play now.
I want to know/read/discuss anything about prop bets dealing with cards. I have read a bunch of stories about prop bets over implants, feats of strength, etc. I just want something new to try with card games.
I have done the red/black bet, I have a prop sheet with exact match, doubles of a rank, pick 3's, and suits.
Does anybody do any bets with stud games? How are they different than what I have done with hold'em.
Are there any links/websites other than Daniels Blog that discuss or talk about what the pros do when playing props?
Thanks in advance for anything you have to offer! |

Also, in the sumer one of my friends will be doing the much spoken about 'bathroom for a month'
I think he's being offered 7-1 to live in a bathroom in a month with no laptop and 3-1 with a laptop. |

You can do hi/low flops. You can prop if the next dealer will be male/female. You can prop 4 and 5 card red/black boards, which adds to the suspense after an all red/black flop.
If I'm on a bad streak of cards and there is a lucky donkey on the table, I've propped on who wins a hand first, me or the donkey.
Related prop bet. At a home game you could have everyone at the table throw a chip into a side bet that goes to the last person at the table to win a pot. |

ex: 1 pt for every heart that is on the board when you win a hand, Q spades is worth 15 points.
Use a high total point number as the losing or wining number.
For the record I have never done this, but it seems like a fairly fun side game to play that could go for awhile during a regular Hold 'Em game.
If you try it let me know how it works - if it sticks please name it after me somehow

If you would like your own contact Capstone (I think) he was involved in the last prop bets thread and came up with this style of prop sheet. You can purchase a custom one from him for $10 I think. Send him a pm!
Back to your post cdnmoose, you mentioned hi/lo flops; how do you play that?
Sneds, thanks for your suggestions! I am going to try to avoid those crazy bathroom style props! I would probably need to get a divorce in order to attempt one!!
J, I am definitely going to try that hearts game out this week. There are 3 other guys who like playing the props with me and that should be a blast! I think what I will do is play the Hearts as a low game- first player to reach 25 loses and the game is over; the player with the lowest score wins the prop pot. Then I think I am going to play a game of spades with the highest score winning the prop pot; again first one to 25 wins!!
I am going to work on some written rules so I can get everything ironed out before sharing it with the guys on Thursday!!
Thanks for all the ideas people!!! |

I've never heard of a prop bet played during a stud game, but it doesn't seem hard. The hearts prop bet would be easy enough. Win a hand, count the hearts and the Q and write them down.
Cool thread. Consider me interested. |

I figured the Q is a "Middle ground" high card in most starting hands and how much different a poker game may play if there was more consequence to playing the Q.
Cpt - I assume in the version of the game you mention using 25 pts as the win/lose marker the Q of either suit would not be 15 pts, maybe 5?
Let me know how it works. I would be physc'd if this is fun and "Sticks" |

Let me know how it works. I would be physc'd if this is fun and "Sticks" | I was thinking that it should be 13pts, which would mean that if you won with the Q you would probably eliminate yourself from the prop. But I could work in a rule we use which is when you hit a certain number of points you go back to zero- for example: when we play hearts the first person to score over 100 pts loses, and the game is over, unless you hit exactly 100 then you go back to zero.
I gotta run now and will be back to comment more later... |

Chips: 1,584 | | | Re: Prop Bets Okay, I originally thought that with a game ending at 25pts, it would move a little quicker thus keeping the interest level of everyone involved. But the being 13pts might be a little steep.
I think maybe the way to go would be to keep the scoring the same but set the ending points a little higher...maybe 50.
This is another thing to consider....would this cause people to not get involved at all? Meaning they would fold hands just to keep a low score?? Thinking like that kind of goes against the idea of the prop...which is to encourage more gambool in players!
Maybe I should go the spades route? Then it would be a race to get to a certain number of points. Anybody play spades?? I don't know the rules all that well...I am going to look those up now. |

Chips: 1,584 | | | Re: Prop Bets Okay according to a googled site I found, spades doesn't play the way I thought it did. I thought you got points based on the number of spades you collected from winning tricks...but this isn't the case.
I think what I will do is this....assign a point value to all the cards then keep track of the score.
I will be back in a few to show what I have come up with. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
