Chips: 120 | | | How do you deal at your home games? I read all these posts of you guys dealing on the button and passing the deal around. Personally, on an 8' oval table, it's far too difficult to deal from the ends of the table and flops are hard to see, etc.
Our group actually does Ace deals (when you pull seats) and then subsequently loser deals. This tends to work out great and for sure if someone pulls an ace to start more frequently than not, I or someone else volunteers to deal for the beginning of that night.
Sure, dealing after you bust out SUCKS, but I think it helps to run the game more smoothly. We also have the button shuffle so the deck is ready to go once the hand is over.

Unless you play an ante game, the BB and SB would jump around, rotating the deal keeps the blinds in check and no one gets skipped. This insures everyone gets to deal evenly and not one person still involved is handlin gthe cards more than others....plus I hate dealing, I wouldn't want to have to deal multiple hands if I end up on the wrong end of a hands.
The guys at the ends get help from the rest of the table if they aren't good at dealing, people pass cards down and make sure everything runs smoothly...if they are strangers, just put your gun on your cards as a protector and you'll insure no one f-'s with the cards.

That guy cuts the Deck and passes it to the next guy to his left. I think this is the standard way if you use 2 Decks and no dedicated dealer. Previously we only used one Deck and it sometimes (if a clumsy guy tries to shuffle the cards) really slowed down the game. With two decks there is normally no delay between the showdown and the deal of the next hand.
IMO this is a very fast way to deal the cards. Also it is nice because there are always three people involved in a deal...so people have to work hand in hand. |

When I deal, I run the table like a dealer. I'm raking pots, telling people when it's their turn, etc. |

A poker buddy & I played in a game with the method you mention, & found it just the opposite, it seemed more cumbersome & slowed the game compared to the method I mentioned above.
(I'm sure us being used to "our way" was a factor )
When the next dealer in line simply shuffles & deals his own deck, just offering a cut to his right, the game seemed to move much faster than when Larry shuffled & passed to Curly, who then cuts the deck, then passes it to Moe who finally deals ect ..

I have a couple of other guys trained who help me keep some of the non-regulars in check, reminding them of thier turn, action to them, etc. Quote:

Things run pretty smoothly for the most part, besides the occasional mis-deal. Everyone helps the less co-ordinated get the cards to the ends of the table and If people don't pay attention we rag the hell out of them. Seems to work for my group. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
