Chips: 1,700 | | | Counting down Just idly thinking thoughts poker when this popped into my head. When someone asks you for a count of your stack what is legally required? I've seen folks even up their stakes and verbally declare ("about $XXXXXXX"), I've seen folks just neaten up the stacks and do nothing, I've seen folks line up their stacks for the questioner to count, etc. There are some rules in play about keeping large denom chips in front. In that one of the most common reasons for asking for a chip count is to get a tell what is the person asked actually required to do?
Doesn't seem to be anything in Roberts about this. |

You could make an approx guess, but if asked to get an ACTUAL count, then you gotta count it down. |

If the player does offer to count the chips then its bad form to pretend to count and deliberately give an inacurate figure, but again - not sure there are hard and fast rules in this area.
The best advice if you want an acurate count (and are not trying to 'get a read') is to ask the *dealer* to count the chips. |

Everyone has the right to know how much everyone is playing.
If the dealer is asking. A third party should do it.

Even though I asked in the home game forum I'm interested in how it plays out in the Casino world too. |

McFish says,"No I want to hear him tell me", so I tell fish that Guiness doesn't have to say a thing if he doesn't want to. Sad thing, he cashed out for like $190 that night...sucked out on me once for about $50 of it. He thought he was sucjh a great player...it was quite comical. One of those, "I put you on 7's" after someone showed their hand...funny, he never got me right.

Player can count it, approx it, or do nothing and let the dealer count.
I wonder what happens if I ask the Donk to count down, and they tell me, then I ask the dealer to verify? ROFLMAO.
Last home tourney, I thought a buddy had me covered by a few chips, when I won and we "matched" stacks, I had him covered by a few instead. Left him with a bad feeling at the time, but after reflection, it made no diff. He wasn't going to fold, and a few chips weren't likely to do him any good. I don't remember who asked who for a count. He probably asked me, and I probably told him he had a small edge. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
