Tough rulings at the WSOP

This is not really home rules oriented, but could think of any other place to put it.

For $50K you better know the rules. From the WSOP live updates:

No Peekie - Not at the Table and Not With Your Big Chips
Two players at table #11 were in a hand and one player called all-in after counting his opponents chips (calculating that he had him covered). The only problem was that his opponent had his larger denomination chips hidden behind the smaller ones. The floor was called over, and the hand was declared dead. An announcement was promptly made regarding the rules. You must have the largest denominations in front, in plain sight. No dirty stacks, etc.

No doubt... it has been this way for a long time.
You would think that somebody at the table would have caught it before it got that far. Oh well !!!

Re: Tough rulings at the WSOP

I think this is a good rule. It speeds up the game also because you don't have to ask "do you have any bigger chips left there?" every time.
It's also not very fair to hide your big chips in my opinion.

Re: Tough rulings at the WSOP

That kind of crap drives me nuts! I am glad they called it out.

I can deal with the guy who is color blind goofin up every now and again, but those who do it on purpose suck.

Re: Tough rulings at the WSOP

I also think that it is a good rule.
I always try to use this rule in my homegames, because one guy always try to somehow hide his high denom chips. He always said it is no problem, and he would count them if you ask. but everybody is realizing that he is only trying to hide them that he can suprisingly put them out when he has a hand.
I dont like that at all.

Re: Tough rulings at the WSOP

Hi,

its an well known rule. And i think its indispensible, due to the elementary different play of a small stack to a bigstack! And you cant ask every ten hand to every player" How much left".....

We do it for the home game. I remember being at Foxwoods and noticing my neighbor kept hiding his $100 chips behind his $25's. I politely and privately mentioned to him that those chips are not in play if someone puts you all in (I've seen both situations where the hand either goes dead or the hand stays live but the hidden high denom chips are not able to be played....depends on the players sometimes).

Anyways he got all aggravated with me for talking to him about it....as if he didn't like the rule....oh well.

I can't remember the guy's name, but he moved to Seattle. He came to my house where we were playing on the table that I sold to you. I remember he had some of his chips in the cupholders...way out of view. Now that was funny. I realize he was out of the game for a while and forgot some of the basic rules. You could tell he had no ill intent, but I still remember that..."I put you all in, how much do you have?" "Oh, I have these ones too." as he reaches into the cupholders....

Another classic moment, Bill B. at your house, loaded out of his mind...cash game...Matthew says all-in against him and he calls....with a stack of $5 chips hidden behind his $1's and quarters. About the most upset I've seen Matt get...but he was still cordial....unlike myself..

Th eultimate though...is when an unnamed individual was put all in...and tried to pay you back borrowed money from their stack before calling you...hilarious...late night, just a few of us left...good buzz going...then that...classic.

We have no issues yelling at those who forget to put the high denom chips in plain view...seems to happen about every week.

Re: Tough rulings at the WSOP

So the guy who moved all in... His hand was ruled dead. So were his chips in the pot prior to his cards being declared dead? Basically my question was did he get to keep his chips or did the other dude just get his chips as he was the only active player in the pot?
