League Points Question...

I have two separate situations that came up in last nights game:

League points are awarded as follows:

~.5 pt for knocking a player out
~Points awarded based on finishing place-
~First out- 1pt
~Second out- 2 pts
~Third out- 3 pts
~etc
~Winner revcieves Xpts, where X equals the number of players +1

Situation #1 (3 Players involved no one has busted yet)
Player 1 moves all in, player 2 calls and has more chips, player 3 calls and covers both players. Player 3 wins knocking the other players out.

Question #1- Does player 3 get the .5 pts for knocking out both players? (meaning he gets 1 full point, .5 for each player)

Q #2- Does player 2 get .5 pts if his hand was better than player 1's?

Q #3- Who should be awarded the higher finishing place points? OR Should they both recieve the same amount of points since they were knocked out on the same hand by the same player, i.e. they tied for last place and they both get only 1 point?

Situation #2 (Again 3 players, they are the last 3 in the tournament)
Player 1 moves all in, player 2 calls but has fewer chips, player 3 calls and has both players covered. 2 pots, and the short stack wins the main pot, and the big stack wins the side pot. Player 1 is knocked out.

Q #4- Should player 2 (short stack) recieve points for knocking out player 1?

I hope that my questions are clear and easy to understand, if not please let me know and I will try to fix them....I know the answers seem extremely straight forward and clear cut, but at the time it was a little cloudy....it could have been the alcohol.....

Any and all answers are greatly appreciated!

Re: League Points Question...

Disclaimer: I don't run or participate in any leagues, but I've been researching them for a while and would really like to be in one!

Smallest stack should be awarded 1 point. Other stack should be awarded 2 points. If stacks were equal I would award them each 1.5 points.

Nope, player 3 should receive the .5 points for knocking out player 1.

Re: League Points Question...

SItuation one:
The winner of the pot (player3) knocked the other two players out. He should get a .5 point for both. Player 2 should not get half a point with second highest hand because technically he did not knock out player 1.
I would give player 1 last place because he had the smaller stack going into the hand and player 2 gets second to last place.

Re: League Points Question...

Situation 1:
Q1: I would think Player three would get the full one point for knocking both players out @.5 a piece.

Q2: I don't think player 2 should get .5 if his hand was better than player one's because player 2 didn't knock him out.

Q3: I would give them their finishing rank based on who started the hand with more chips. I believe that's what would happen in a real tourney paying out places.

Situation 2:

Wow, this is a tough one. I don't think the short stack who one the main pot should receive points for knocking player one out. I think to receive points for knocking a player out, you should start the hand with more chips than the player you are knocking out. It was actually player 3 who knocked him out. If player 1 and player 2 went against each other, player 2 would not have knocked out player 1, and player 1 would still be in the tournament to play another hand.

I agree that the short stack shouldn't get credit for knocking player one out. He never had enough chips to cover player one's all in bet so he can't take credit for him getting knocked out.

Yes, he gets 1 point.

No, he is screwed - he did not knock the player out.

Option 1: (my preferred method, and how most online sites will place you in a tourney):
The player with the most chips prior to the hand gets the higher place.
Option 2 : If the two players were the 3rd and 4th players to get knocked out, each gets 3.5 points.

Nope, it is impossible for a short stack to knock out a larger stack, and therefore no possible way for him to get points. The winner of the sidepot gets the point.

These are my opinions - I haven't checked the thread to see what everyone else said. Now I'll peruse and see if anyone needs correcting . Bottom line though - this is what *I* think is "best", but it's your league, do what you want .

Thanks! I thought the same as you (as well as the others), which makes me feel pretty good about the whole thing!! Hopefully next week will be less eventful....

Sometimes I think these guys come up with the stupid questions just to test me, or piss me off....either way I get pretty "riled" up about it!!!
