Chips: 2,925 | | | Advice for a variation on "Bad Beat Jackpot" My league is about to start its 3rd season, and I'm thinking of adding a "bad beat jackpot" sort of component. Instead of a monetary (or otherwise) award for being the victim of a bad beat, I'm thinking of enforcing a humiliating "punishment" on the donk who commits one. Anyway, that's not what I need advice on...
I'm looking for suggestions for a rule regarding hands that qualify as a bad beat. I know the qualifications that some online sites use (like victim's hand minimum is quad-8's, and donk has to come from behind on the river, and both players must use both hole cards, etc.), but I find that they're far too improbable for a brick & mortar league game. I'm looking for something that is likely to occur once or twice per tourney, on average. There could be several possible qualifiers, as well. For example: Condition 1: All-in pre-flop:
Hand qualifies if: - victim holds a pair and is beaten by a player holding 2 unpaired lower cards.
- _____
- _____
Condition 2: From flop:
Hand qualifies if: - victim holds a made straight or better, and is beaten by a 3- (or fewer)- outer on the turn or river
- ____
- ____
Condition 3: From turn:
Hand qualifies if: - victim holds a nut-flush (A-high) or better, and is beaten by a 3- (or fewer)- outer on the river
- ____
- ____
Any ideas/advice would be helpful.

Victim loses with Aces full of Jacks or better.
Both players must show down.
Both players must play both cards.
No talking about the jackpot before showdown! |

At B&M bbj, it is just certain high hands that are beaten by a better hand. It is not a donk beat or call. It is generally as cpiaaq post above, athlo the hand that is beaten does vary, such as A's full of Ten's or quad 8 (at Party). At some places both hole cards must play.
It seem's what you want is a donk bad beat because if I had something like quad's and beaten by higher quad, that is not a donk bet. |

Get a plaque or soemthing similar with a Donkey on it, and if someone makes a horendous call and hits their one-outer one the river, they get to carry the donkey plaque until someone else repeats the infraction. Whoever has it at the end of the night takes it home and has to bring it back to the next game.
Wouldn't need specific hands to qualify if you were able to make nominations on any given hand, then half the players at the table agree it was a donk move or a grotesque suck out, then the plaque is bestowed.
Or did I completely miss the point?

for a no limit tourney, award the donk who puts all his money in or put someone else all in and had the fewest outs to a winner and hit one of the outs.
won't work well for a limit tourney since sometimes the pot odds may justify making some unbelievable calls. |

And here's the reason why: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/custom...tom-clays.html
Yes, looking for a "donk bad beat" jackpot, as opposed to a "very high hand beaten by superior high hand" jackpot. I'd still like to have a firm qualifier for it, though. Voting on the biggest suck-out of the night isn't concrete enough.

Well, in the first "badonka donk donkament", the bad beat punishment was used 3 times. The first was when a player raised pre-flop with , bet nearly half her chips after the flop of and was called by one opponent, and pushed all-in when the turn came . Her opponent called and showed ... and she hit the inside (runner-runner) straight with on the river.
The second time, the same player pushed with QQ against my KK. Guess the river...
Unfortunately, I earned the ears during the cash game (see http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...ast-night.html for description of how the hand played out and its consequences). I had some outs, but it was admittedly a bad call... and I got paid off for the rest of the night for it... |
