Reveal your hand too early

Hey guys question:

What do you do if someone shows his his hand already after the turn - thinking the other guy is all in but he has still 5% of his chips left - instead waiting to do this after the river betting ...

Thx for your help

Re: Reveal your hand too early

In my games the action still continues and the other player is still able to make his decision of what to do with advantage of seeing the his cards.

It is his fault for prematurely showing his cards and however it is still live.

Re: Reveal your hand too early

Last weekend in a casino in Shreveport this happened to me:

I am the BB in a 1-2 NL game with about $130 in front of me. There are 3 or so limpers to a guy in late position who raises to $15. I have KK and raise to $50. The limpers all fold. He has me well covered, asks how much I have. I count out my remaining $80. He goes all-in and flips his aces. I looked at his cards and folded my kings face-up.

To answer your question, play continues with the other players having an advantage.

Re: Reveal your hand too early

In a tournament there may be a different rule. I was the donkey that pulled this move one time.

A short stack went all in and I called him quickly, after the flop, forgetting like a dope that there was someone behind me left to act and he had more chips than me...

Because the player left to act had an unfair advantage over the "all-in" player, because I exposed cards before the hand was completed, my hand was declared dead and I was out of the tournament. I would have lost anyways with the worst hand...but that's how my poker luck runs...

Re: Reveal your hand too early

TDA rules, WPT/WSOP rules, and Robert's Rules all cover this. The hand is not dead even if there are other players left to act. If this happens in a tournament a penalty may be imposed (after the hand), depending on circumstances.

A lot of people think this is a dead hand though.

Re: Reveal your hand too early

One of the funniest hands I've seen yet went down with an exposed hand creating all of the humour. The hand is checked down to the turn by all five players still in the hand. The river comes up and Scott (who is very drunk now) pushes all in and flips over his hand to reveal he has a pair of threes and stumbles off to the bathroom. None of the remaining four players could beat his threes and he takes down the pot while on the pot.

Re: Reveal your hand too early

Exposed hand. Hand is live. Pick up the action where you left off with the other players in the hand.
Deal the river, finish the action, award the pot.
Next hand please.

Re: Reveal your hand too early

I host a weekly poker league. This comes up more than I'd like to see. The hand is played out as normal. But at the end of the hand, the person who exposed his cards has to sit out for 10 minutes.
