"New Setup??!?" Live game players, Please repeat after me.......

Changing the deck will not change your luck. It will only slow the game.
Changing the deck will not change your luck. It will only slow the game.
Changing the deck will not change your luck. It will only slow the game.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.

Thank you.
(those who know, pardon the interruption, sorry if this should be posted in forum-du-whine.)

I personally think this dispensation is over-used in B&M's, and I don't allow it in my home game unless a card is damaged. I paid good money for these cards, and by golly you're gonna use the ones in my hand. If someone can quote me the section in Robert's Rules, I'll be happy to staple it to my felt and I'll STFU.

OK, Rant over.

I agree. If things aren't going my way at a particular table (in a casino), I'll ask for a seat change or a table change. I never ask for a new setup.

Re: "New Setup??!?" Live game players, Please repeat after me.......

I personally have never asked for a setup... unless if i saw a bent or marked card.

Others ask for it ALL the time to "change" there luck; Gamblers Fallacy

I have played at places that allow new setups every 1/2 hour, hour and also places where it was 2 hours.

Irregardless I am not really bothered when people ask for it, unless if I am playing a timed rake game.

At my game you can ask for a deck change at any time if you pay for the deck to be removed. Never been asked for a deck change in nearly 10 years.

Wow, never come up in my home games. Of course, we're pretty informal, so if someone is feeling unlucky, we usually just switch games, rather than switching decks.

Re: "New Setup??!?" Live game players, Please repeat after me.......

In my home game the only person to ask is my father-in-law. When it's his turn to deal he asks for a new deck. Now I have Kems, 4 sets of Dal Negros (Freedoms, Acetate, ect.) and he wants the paper cards. He does this on several occasions and it gets to the point that I tell him it's not the cards it's the player. Try bluffing. Then my wife stares at me and calls me P.A.P.P. (pompous a$$ poker player).

Re: "New Setup??!?" Live game players, Please repeat after me.......

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Changing the deck because you are card dead will not help. In my mind, this is one of the signs of a below average quality poker player. Someone who thinks that changing the deck will somehow change their luck is in big trouble.

Oh, and if you ask me for a new setup in my monthly home tournament all you will get is a huge laugh from me and a chorus of barbs from the rest of the players there!

I completely disagree about this being a sign of a below average player.

Many, many, many, many poker players are very, very, very, very superstitious.

Best home game rule EVAR. And a reason to use only the best cards, just in the rare case someone takes you up on the offer.
