I heard about one guy who said that to speed up home games they sometimes use 6-deck Blackjack shoes, so that the dealer / players don't have to shuffle.
Sounds strange - Playing with a shoe would mess up the whole concept of "outs". Plus you could get 5 of a kind. (and have Multiple 5 of a kind hands)
I can't imagine that it would be the same (even if it did go faster)
unless the decks are separated. They would have to be shuffled individually at first. Then after one hand. All of the cards of the deck are taken out and given to someone to shuffle them. In the meantime, the second deck is already in the shoe and is being delt. The first deck will be re-shuffled and put back in the back of the shoe. The cards are always coming out.
I think the online mentality has ruined some folks.
I had my first poker tourney in January. One woman came that has an online account & plays regularly, but she said that this was the FIRST TIME that she had played poker with people at a table. She has only played online.
She hasn't had to look at people before, read other people's motions, feel chips in her hand, etc.
Whie a shoe is great for blackjack, it would be totally impractical for single deck games like poker. Just learn how to shuffle and life is good.
